html box with shadow in IE6

I created an html box and applied a white background, rounded corners, and outside shadow.

Looks great in Safari & Firefox (other than I’d like to have the text move up closer to the top of the box).

In IE6. there is a noticeable grey box behind the entire box.

I haven’t noticed this problem using graphic boxes to achieve the same look, but I am switching to html boxes to avoid overflow issues.

Any work-arounds or suggestions?

It’s because they’re PNG graphics and IE6 doesn’t understand transparency of PNG’s very well (or at all). Even with the IE6 button checked a pngbehavior.htc file gets added to handle these types of images but really doesn’t help them at all.

Without hacks, that sometimes work and sometimes don’t, you won’t be able to get the effect you desire unless you rethink the design of it.

Darn it. I moved to html boxes because graphics boxes have even more issues.

Any other way to get a similar look that will work?
