HTML email broken

Hello,

I made this html page for, a buddy and now he is trying to insert this into a mailing program.
The outcome is a disaster !
It seems like the content is broken into pieces and all seth underneath each other…
I did place the images in a table and the html links are external and start with http://
This is the original html page:http://www.teaktime.be/koopjes/mailingtest.html

How is this to be solved, because my friend gets very nervous…

Thx

Hi John,

The best thing to do is make sure all your elements are table based (turn off the Layer option on all of them. You should then apply the Create Email Action to the page. This Action will go through all the code in the page and convert it to email friendly code.

Have a look here for more info:

Hope this helps,
Joe

I changed al the items on the html page to non layers !
(I still have CSS layout on, our is that of no importance?)

Before I apply the email action,
I need to import Images into some table cels. Can this be done by double clicking inside a cel and paste an copied image in?
On some other cells I need to insert a button with a link.

Almost there I think
I appreciate additional help

You can insert a graphic item into your cell and then import the graphic into that.

Is it necessary that the images are placed inside a table for the html email to render as it should ?

You don’t need to draw a table with the table tool. If you click the Big Blue Button™, you will switch the elements you draw from CSS Positioned to Table Positioned, and your working style with Freeway will be (nearly) the same. You draw a graphic box where you want it to appear, you draw an HTML box where you want that to appear, etc. The only difference to your workflow is that you don’t get to overlap any elements without autmatic slicing happening. Behind the scenes, Freeway will create the mother of all tables to hold everything together. You certainly don’t have to draw a table with the table tool – that’s only needed for presenting tabular data or other structured elements.

Ok, I pretty much followed the tutorial to build a html email.
And it is a confusing tutorial, believe me

So it drives me crazy…
When I preview the file locally, it looks fine, but when I set the email action to: preview o, server, all I see is this

Okay, that just means that the images are not where the source says they are. If you want to use images in an email, you have to do two things:

  1. Upload those images somewhere public on the Internet.
  2. Rewrite the HTML of your message body so it references those images at their full external address.

You appear to have done the second of these, but the images aren’t on the server where the source is looking for them. Have you used Freeway’s Upload command from within this document? Or did you use an FTP application instead?

I have used freeways upload command.

In the document setup I have for directory:
public_html/teaktime/koopjes

And for the web address:
http://www.indoorteak.be/

In Freeway, all of the pages reside in the map: koopjes
I have created another map under koopjes called email, in witch the koopjesemail file is placed ( thats the file that should be emailed…)

Try adding /email to the end of that address in Freeway’s Document Setup. See if that fixes it.

Thx Walt,
When i do that, everything will be uploaded to that map I am afraid ? And I don’t want that.
That’s why I followed the tutorial regarding the new map.
I taught that way, all the images in the email would automatically be uploaded into that map.
See my pages structure:

Hence, I didn’t now it was that difficult to create a html email ?
My problem is i am working to a deadline: the email is a sales promotion for valentine, so he has to get out, if possible before noon today !

Not so - the Server and Directory settings determine where the files are uploaded to - they remain unchanged.

The Web Address determines the base point for the file paths

@ Dave.
I dont understand…
How shut they be set then ? You have to admit that it is very confusing. The problem I seem to have is that the images are not uploaded and that the links are not working.
This what i end up now: http://www.teaktime.be/koopjes/index.html
This how my file structure looks like:
http://users.telenet.be/willemyns/File%20structure.jpg
where email is the page that should be emailed,
And finally this is how my document setup looks like.
http://users.telenet.be/willemyns/Document%20setup.jpg

So please tell me what to do ?

Hi John,

In the Create Email Action settings, you need to select “Yes, preview on Server” for the “Use absolute links” option.

You then need to set the Web Address field in the Upload dialog to:

http://www.teaktime.be/koopjes/

When you next upload you should get what you’re expecting to see. From there you can send the email a number of different ways. You can either use Safari’s “Mail Contents of This Page” option (Command-i). To use this you need to have the page open in Safari. Or you can use one of the many mail sending services out there, such as MailChimp, Vertical Response, Campaign Monitor, or a Mac app we just came across recently, Direct Mail http://directmailmac.com/. To use these you’ll need to view the source in your browser, select all the code and copy/paste it into your sending service of choice.

Hope this helps!

Joe
