HTML Fonts

Could anyone tell me how I can use more html fonts in my sites please. I find the 7 in the list a little limiting. I presume its something to do with CSS? I am using 4.4.2 on 10.5.2. Thanks in advance

You may specify any number of fonts in your document. Simply use Edit

Font Sets to add fonts. Be sure to note how the stock fonts are
set up. Each font-family is specified as a list (in descending order
of preference) of typefaces that look similar to one another, ending
in a generic reference that tells the browser “Use your best judgement”.

Realize, though, that the 7 you see pre-set for you are the ones most
likely to be found on a wide range of browsers. If you are building
an intranet site, and thus know a lot about the browsers that will be
using your page, you can use any font you know will be loaded on
those browsers. But for safety’s sake, this is the list of your best
chances for the widest possible audience on both major platforms.

No, that’s just the basic problem of having to use ‘web-safe’ fonts
to ensure that people see your pages at least roughly as you intend!
There’s nothing you can do about this, as HTML text formatting is
nothing more than a request to the visitor’s browser to use a
certain font. If that’s not installed in the visitor’s computer, it
won’t be used to format the type.

I’ve written a feature about this. It is getting a little old now,
but it should still be worth reading. It was originally a lecture I
gave to the Society of Typographical Designers, then a MacUser cover
feature, and now this set of web pages.

HI Keith,
I printed out the pages of your lecture but the links no longer work and I was curious for more info. What I did get was good though and concise.

Hi Carolyn,

Which links didn’t work? I took a quick look through, and yep, some
of the external links are dead - and a couple did need to be fixed.
(Doh!)

But you should have been able to see all the text of the lecture. Was
this the problem? I think I might go remake that set of pages
completely in the near future.

Hi Keith,
No, I was fine with the text of the lecture itself, it was just the
links below that text that I tried to click through to. Not to
worry , you did say it was an old lecture.

Thanks, Carolyn
