html5 video action question

Hello!
I’m trying to use this action but so far with no success. I found out there’s a note at the bottom of the instructions that could be the reason of the problem:

Note: You will need to contact your web host and ask them to add the .ogv file format to the list of valid MIME types on your server (or do this yourself if you know how). This Action will produce invalid HTML

Is there a way I could do it myself? I asked Network Solutions and lately they are really complicated to fix things…

thanks,

Marcus

You could google for the correct syntax to add to your .htaccess file on your server. Probably a line like this:

AddType video/ogg .ogv

If that doesn’t make your entire server break (Error 500) then you can probably bet that it is working. Some servers aren’t set to allow users to make these types of changes in an .htaccess file, which will throw the error. If you don’t see any errors when you next visit your site, you can then try to view an .ogv video from your server and see if it plays. If you do get the error, just delete that line from your .htaccess and save over it (restoring back to what you had as a default). No harm to try this.
