IE Woes

I’m having an issue with IE7…trying to access my site http://poetslax.com generates an error when trying to open the site. Anybody else experiencing this problem? I have no idea why it’s a problem, works fine in Safari and IE6 even.

To answer my own thread here, if I type in http://www.poetslax.com the site comes up fine. I saw another posting here about redirects, how do I do that here to redirect from http://poetslax.com to http://www.poetslax.com, my other sites do this automatically.

The whole site works fine for me using IE 5.2.3 on Panther.

Thanks for checking Richard but the site is completely broken from a PC using IE as far as I can tell…it works fine in firefox, Safari, etc from a pc or mac.

What is going on here, I’ve never had this problem on any of my sites.

Just a quick note here: Internet Explorer 5 is an ex-browser; it’s
been officially dead for some time now, and nobody should be wasting
any time testing on it. Also, it gives you no idea of what the site
will look like in current versions of Internet Explorer for Windows.

Paul,

As far as I can tell, this isn’t limited to any version of IE on a PC, it’s all of them! I tried IE7 and IE6 and both give me a popup message saying it can’t open the site and the operation is aborted. I follow all the message threads here and I don’t remember anyone ever experiencing a complete failure to load mainly rendering issues. This seems to be a compatibility problem. Could the problem be on the server?

Is it possible that your machine running IE has some odd setting that is not allowing you to access the site?
The site looks fine using IE net render, Moved

More about DNS:

marvin:Documents waltd$ host poetslax.com
poetslax.com has address 72.29.84.123
poetslax.com mail is handled by 0 poetslax.com.
marvin:Documents waltd$ host www.poetslax.com
www.poetslax.com is an alias for poetslax.com.
poetslax.com has address 72.29.84.123
poetslax.com mail is handled by 0 poetslax.com.

This all looks perfectly okay to me, but your PC may be using out of
date information or just be acting normally (for a PC).

Thanks Walter, that’s reassuring but one of my readers in Arizona is experiencing the problem, he originally surfaced it and I confirmed it on my mac at home using VMWare fusion with IE6 and IE7 and my pc at work today using IE6. For me, it’s no problem at all, I don’t normally use IE anytime, but it could be affecting many of my users. Could our settings be off the same way?

I forced it a bit and it will load pages other than the home page, for example, http://poetslax.com/Gallery/gallery.html will load just fine. The only thing I’m running on the home page is the fading slideshow action. I tried turning that off and it still won’t load. I’m also using CSS menus but they all worked fine up till a few days ago.

When I type in http://poetslax.com/index.html for my home page it loads, when it’s just http://poetslax.com it doesn’t!

I cleaned up cookies, history etc. in IE and it still gives me an error and won’t load the page.

This one has me stumped.

That page is enormous – truly humongous – file-size-wise. Perhaps
the fact that the page “weighs” over 30MB and doesn’t ever seem to
stop growing has something to do with that. There’s something
desperately wrong with your fading slideshow script. It keeps loading
the same images over and over, and never stops re-loading them (adding
to the memory size each time). It’s currently at 45MB and I’m closing
the browser.

ok, thanks…I’ll look at that tonight. I may need to redo the entire page then to strip out the images used in the fading slideshow.
