I’m getting ready to completely redesign my band’s website http://www.tiedtothestone.com and my company’s website http://www.earthen.com, again. Actually, I’m thinking of hiring a company to do it since I totally suck at it and hate doing it–even with Freeway. I was wondering, though, since Flash doesn’t show up on iPads or iPhones, what can I use as an audio player that will? I searched and searched but haven’t been able to find an answer for this. My main concern right now is audio, but I’ll be worried about video later on, too.
can`t tell you what to use what kind of player, but can share the thoughts of Mr. Guru himself and his thoughts of “substituting” flash technologie:
HTML5, CSS and JavaScript
will mean that he declares these as the future keys and will mean that you have to dig in these wholes.
My personal standpoint is: good thoughts but how long will it take the world (or in my case germany) to realize, that it needs WebKit-Browser for to use:
Years or Lightyears?
Til then (or the time where the use of IE will be forbidden by law) I await on my personal statement:
“The use will need Win98 or better so I bought a Macintosh!”
Yeah, I’ve read that article and I’ve looked into some example sites and coding in HTML5. Way way way over my head and not far enough along to use now. Plus, IE 6 7 and 8 are still #1 according to the visits to our websites.
I did find something called JPlayer This page has moved to jPlayer.org and I checked out some of the sites that use it on my iPad and it seems to work–except for an annoying little problem where it doesn’t want to load the first track, which I think they fixed but the sites I was checking out hadn’t applied the fix yet. I also don’t know how to get it into my site. I was confused by instructions and implementation. I’m not cut out for this kind of thing.
and fall back to Flash if it’s not supported in the browser.
Regards,
Tim.

Thanks for that. That was interesting, though way over my head. The guy who wrote that is the same guy who developed JPlayer, which utilizes that HTML5 audio tag I guess. I would like to use JPlayer but I’m having trouble wrapping my head around how to implement it. You would find it easy, but for me it’s a brain teaser. If I hire someone I’ll make sure they’re up to date on all this stuff. It’s just too much for me.
Some time back we did a site for a singer www.lad y de nti st.co.uk/la dy-den tist-albums.php
(design and layout and subject matter supplied by the clients brief)
This uses only the Freeway actions for the site to drive the music via rollovers, a bit of a fiddle to get it to work, but if the music is trimmed to a sensible size works fine.
