Illustrator items in FW &/Backdraft

I have in the past placed Adobe Illustrator files directly into a FW document with no problem.

I am now working in FW 7 with a Backdraft Template. and when I import an AI item it is visible in the design view but absent when previewed or uploaded - with a 'missing plugin" message.

Is this a FW7 problem or a Backdraft one (or have I done something wrong!)
Can this be resolved or do I now have to make pngs and gifs of each item.

Regards Richard

Richard,

Are you importing the Illustrator file as a pass-through graphic? With pass-through graphics, Freeway does nothing to the file. It will output the file exactly as you imported it.

You have two options here:

  1. Drag and drop the AI file directly into the graphic item on the page. It won’t be pass-through. Now, right-click on the graphic item and in the extended dialog, add this entry:

    | Name | Value |
    | - - | - - |
    | class | flexImage |

It should now be flexible, without having to be a pass-through graphic. Because it’s not pass-through, Freeway will convert it into a web-safe file format.

  2. Follow these directions.

Both methods will work, though the first will likely cause overflowing problems in Freeway’s construction view in the smaller breakpoints (this is only in Freeway’s construction view, it will still be flexible in the output).

Thanks for responding Caleb. I am importing the AI file as a Pass-through graphic. When I import a jpg or png the Inspector confirms this at the top of the palette. With an illustrator file it says Plugin.

It is not important I was just curious as it would have saved a step. I can, and have, sized the items in Illustrator and exported them as a png.

Best wishes Richard
