Image and code compression

The other day I mentioned a free application called ImageOptim (http://imageoptim.pornel.net) I sometimes use to post process and compress images. Today I noticed that MacZot (http://www.maczot.com) are doing a daily deal on Smaller (today $12, normally $20) which does the same sort of compression but on CSS and JavaScript code.

You can read more about Smaller here - http://smallerapp.com/

Although Freeway does a great job on optimising it’s own images and code, passthrough images and included code libraries can often benefit from a nip and tuck and tools like this offer great ways to shave off a few unneeded bytes here and there.

Tim.

Tim,

How would this work with Freeway? Would the entire folder be dropped into smallerapp?

Thanks,

Bryan

Delivery is another, http://www.matmartinez.net/delivery/. Fewer features than Smaller but also free.

Hi Bryan,
If you are planning to integrate a third party script into your Freeway site - maybe a script effect you’ve found online for example - then use the app to compress the code prior to adding it to your Freeway site. You could post process the scripts after Freeway has created the site HTML for you but anything you compress will have to be re compressed each time you update the site and re-upload.

Todd, thanks for the Delivery link. The app looks interesting and certainly another one to try.
Regards,
Tim.
