Image Editing

Any suggestions for resizing images so they don’t look proportionally “squished”? I’m working on a jewelry website and I want to have a thumbnail, then a full size. I’m having a hard time creating thumbnails. I’ve been clicking the command key when I resize the graphic. Still looks like Quasimodo, not a good thumbnail. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Joe,
create a small graphic box, import the photo, then go to ITEM>GRAPHIC>SCALE AND PAD in FW menu bar. This should create a clean thumbnail image.

Thanks for the reply Jim. The image scales to the height of the box not the width. I want all the images to be 151 X 140 pixels. Some images fill the box, some do not. Any suggestions?

Thanks again for your help.

Hold down Apple, Option and Shift and drag a handle.

This will only work if all the original images are of the same proportions (width to height) without disproportionate scaling.

If they are not all the same then do that step in PS first by cropping etc.

Alternatively be selective in your thumbnail and only show part of the image - a teaser if you like - to encourage the viewer to click to see the larger image.

And remember you can scale up and down using Shift+Option+Apple and then using < or >

Try using ‘Scale and Trim’ rather than ‘Scale and Pad’

Select the graphic, go to: Item > Graphic > Scale and Trim

Could really use a keyboard shortcut on this one!

As long as all your images are at least that large, why not make your
151x140 pixel box, import your image, and then use Freeway’s ‘Scale
and Trim’ scaling option? Choose Item > Graphic > Scale and Trim.

This scales the image to fill the box, trimming (cropping) off any
excess by putting it outside the graphic box borders.

Exactly what you want, non?

I use photo Drop http://www.kudurshian.net/photodrop/
to create thumbnails. With photo Drop, you can automate all sorts of resizing parameters.
