Can iMovie 09 open 06 files? I’m trying to open an older iMovie project and I’m pretty sure they’re 06. I have a folder called (for example) X movie. In that are files called X movie, X movie.iMovie and X movie.mov. Also 4 folders called Audio Waveforms, Cache, Media and Shared Movies.
In the Media folder are the elements and clips that make up the finished movie (I think). X movie & X movie.iMovie icons are blank white icons.
iMovie 09 will not open any of the files named above. Any ideas ??
I don’t believe you can directly open the older iMovie version (pre-iMovie 08) in newer iMovie 09. You have to use Import from the file menu. Even then, if you had any special plug-ins you added to iMovie HD for example they won’t be recognized in 09.
Apple had the 06 version available for download to any registered
owner of 09 who didn’t like the new version. You might want to check
if it’s still there in their KnowledgeBase.

Walt. I didn’t know that, I’ll take a look. I didn’t want cast a shadow but I hate 09 and much prefer earlier versions of iMovie and iDVD, much more intuitive - sorry for being a Luddite.
I used iMovie 06 for a slide show project that I think came out pretty good. Never used iMovie before and had it on my drive so I gave it a whirl.
I checked out the latest version (09) figuring I’d have to update sooner or later and, yeah, awful looking layout and interface. Why would they change it?
iMovie was set up like a baby Final Cut. Now it looks like…I don’t know what!
