Imported PNG shows up as a JPEG

Hi - so why is it that when I drag a png graphic file from my Finder window into Freeway that it shows up as a JPEG? I then have to manually change to a png.

Anyway to import correctly?

Thanks in advance.

Freeway normally converts your images, whatever they are (JPEG, PNG,
TIFF, PSD, Illustrator, PDF…), into web-optimised graphics, either
JPEG or GIF.

You can choose PNG as an output format for an image by selecting that
from within the Inspector palette. Just remember that Freeway’s
normal behaviour is to optimise and output web graphics
regardless of what format you import.

You can tell Freeway to ‘pass through’ what you import without doing
anything to it. Click the ‘Passthrough’ checkbox in the Import dialog
when you import it. There’s a key to hold down when dragging and
dropping into Freeway, but I can’t remember what it is right now.

But do note that you can’t do anything to a passthrough image in
Freeway; no cropping, resizing or merging with other graphics. It
just outputs it just as you import.

Thank you. That was an excellent answer to my question.

Where do you see what the graphic file type is or has been changed to? I don’t see it in the inspector.

With your graphic selected, click on the little newspaper icon in the
Inspector.

Okay, looks like when I imported it, Pass-Through was checked. Apparently, it does not show the files type under the newspaper if it is a pass-through graphic, as it just shows “Alt Text”. I had also moved the graphic from the desktop to the trash since I thought Freeway made a copy of it. It showed it was missing when I launched the site today. I took it out of the trash and put it in my Freeway Site Folder and relinked. This makes me wonder if it retains a link to the original graphic on Pass-Throughs, or if it just makes the copy with the site is uploaded. Thanks for info…

A copy is put in the site folder for uploading, but the FWP file retains
the link to the original graphic. At least, I think that’s how it works

Every time you publish, FW will look for the original to check if it has been modified or not and then make a copy.

If the original is not there then FW will assume there is a problem. That is why it is good to keep all originals (or copies of) in the Media folder within your Project folder. Best to import direct from this Media folder.
