Importing ai file with transparency

I have an Adobe Illustrator CS4 file with a single layer. There is a short quote at 90% transparency and a larger set of quotation marks at 15% transparency as a separate type element. When I import the ai file only the written quotation marks show up and not the quotation marks. Do I have to make a separate file just for the quotation marks? Thanks for your help in advance!

In illustrator convert all your text to outlines (the type doesn’t look great in FW unless you convert), then in FW make sure you have your image as a later and as a PNG with you colours set to millions - this can be done in the inspector pallet. I use .ai files all the time, they work really well.

Hope it helps

It may be that Illustrator’s 15% transparency doesn’t translate well
into web graphics. You can go back and forth to try different opacity
levels; just change and save in Illustrator then resample in Freeway.

Alternatively, try copying and pasting those quote marks into a
completely new Illustrator document, setting them to be 100% opaque,
then importing that file into your Freeway layout. Use the Fade
action (Item > Actions > Fade) or the Photo Magic action (Item >
Actions > Photo Magic) to achieve the right transparency appearance
within Freeway.
Use the Actions palette to control the opacity level; with the Fade
action set both ends to the same value, with the Photo Magic action
use the Opacity slider.
