The following is taken from the New Features in Freeway 5 doc available at softpress.com

Google Maps is a useful way to show people directions. You can use it to help customers find you, or give directions to an event you are publicizing. Freeway’s Google Maps Action makes it easy to add Google maps to your web sites.
Simply register for a Google API key, and draw the Action on your page. To display the location you need, simply type in the ZIP code, address, or latitude and longitude coordinates and you’re done.
Freeway displays a full preview of the map, using the new Live Action Preview feature.
This Action requires a live internet connection to work, as it uses live data from Google to create the preview.

David, I read that but I don’t understand it. I need some step by step instructions.

Thanks, Bob

First you need to sign up to use a Google Map on your site

http://code.google.com/apis/maps/index.html

Once you have signed up you will get the information that you need to put in the action settings box - once you have drawn the action on your page of course.

Or Insert>action item>google maps.

Once you have the action on your page type in the Site Key that you got from Google.

Fill in the location that you want the map of - whether a town name or post/zip code.

Fine tune the controls for map controller etc.

And your done.

Get the code from the Google page that contains your map. In Freeway,
go to Insert>Markup Item and, when the dialog opens, paste the Google
code inside and hit Ok. Then place the Markup Item where you want it
on the page.

Do you have the Actions palette open onscreen? If not, go to
Freeway’s ‘Window’ menu and choose ‘Actions’. Then select the Google
Map action you drew on the page. All the places to type will appear
in the Actions palette; it allows you to click a button (called “sign
up for key”) to get your Google map signup, then the fields
themselves tell you what to enter - postcode etc, how you want the
map displayed.

Okay, step by step you shall have!
The process is a lot faster than this detailed list might make it
seem, but I wanted to make sure I covered every single angle.

First, open the Inspector palette and make sure that the page you’re
using isn’t set to XHTML Strict. Google Maps and other things that
use the same ‘insert into page’ process can’t work with this
standard’s restrictions. Once this has been checked…

Either choose Item > Actions > Google Map, or press on the Actions
tool icon and pick Google Maps and draw out a box on the page.

Make sure the box is at lease 200 pixels wide and tall.

  1. Open the Actions palette (choose Window > Actions, or command-option-A)

When you have your Google Maps box selected you should see relevant
controls in the Actions palette. Click the Sign Up For Key button and
go through Google’s process for acquiring a Google Maps key for your
domain.

Copy the key text. DON’T try to copy the whole multi-line pile of
code below this, just use the long but single line ‘key’ code.

Back in Freeway, paste the key code into the Site Key text field in
the Actions palette.

Type a zip/post code, street address or town name (with further
identification if necessary; there are many Fairviews, for example,
but only one Fairview, NC).

Use the Actions palette’s Google Maps controls to customise things.

Have fun!

…Any help?

Good Morning All!

As it turns out, the missing link for me was “WINDOW” and then “ACTIONS”. The rest was easy.

I’m new to FreeWay and this is just another part of the learning curve.

Thanks, Bob

And that’s exactly how I took it.

(I have spent many years writing tutorials for MacUser and also
teaching directly. I think pretty much everything that people do can
be treated as an art, including communication. And making art is
fun. Ergo, pretty much everything I do is fun on at least some
levels, including spouting off on mailing lists!

Good for you. That’s one of the most profound and important things
I’ve read on this, or any other list, and I couldn’t agree more.

Mmmm, know what you are saying but I would contend that everything is
a form of craft and only some of it transcends that and becomes Art.

There are craftspeople who become artists, and some that call
themselves artists who are really just good craftspeople (this is not
to devalue their achievement by any means). Art is more than
successful craft and is a much abused term. There is a lot of second
rate Art (both historic and contemporary) out there that is merely
well crafted painting/sculpture/pottery/film (you name it…).

As an illustration of this contention I spent a month, many years
ago, travelling on the railways of Europe visiting places I’d
assembled on a list. Not knowing the cities I started with the major
art galleries in each place. After a dozen or so galleries I realised
that I had started to walk through them quite quickly but I don’t
think I was really missing much. One could walk into a room, glance
round and much of the work would seem repetetive or ordinary.
However, it was uncanny how usually there were one or two that,
regardless of size, stood out and when one approached them they
turned out to be a Rembrandt or a Titian or (insert familiar name).
They radiated something beyond the craft and have a resonance that
crosses time and cultures.

There are too many people calling themselves artists and too few
prepared to accept the very honourable and worthy tag of artisan or
craftsperson. After all, many of the famous paintings and sculptures
were actually created by the studio of the artist with the head
honcho coming in to do the face, or if you paid enough, the hands
too. So there were a lot of jobbing craftsmen contributing to these
works we now call Art.

Me, I studied painting at art college, have become a jack of all
trades and would now put myself in the artisan bunch. Which doesn’t
stop me aspiring to create something worthy of the Art tag but…

Cheers
Pete

Absolutely. Which is why I said “an art”, rather than “Art”. But this
kind of conversation is best held over beers rather than within the
expression boundaries of ASCII and email.

How do I set several locations in a Google map? On «mouseover» I would like to open a) a short discription with a small sample picture and b) on «mousedown» i want to open a panorama (VR) picture from that location.
