Inserting Instagram link/icon onto my page...

I’ve looked at all of the explanations and just cannot get this to work. Any step by step suggestions, please?

Thanks in advance.

I tried to look at the page you linked yesterday, but it’s members-only and I have no interest in signing up.

Generally, when someone gives you a blob of code to use, you want to use a Markup Item on the page. Which kind (inline or positioned) to use depends a lot on what exactly is in the code you want to insert, or what kind of HTML it will generate.

Go to the page where you found the directions, copy the example code they offer, and paste it at https://gist.github.com and reply to this message with the link to the resulting page all by itself on one line. That will inject the markup here safely, and one or another of us can comment further.

Try pasting just this part:

into a Markup Item. Either do this inline, within a run of text, by choosing Insert / Markup Item from the main menu while your text cursor is flashing where you want the button to appear, or click on the pasteboard somewhere empty (so nothing is selected) and choose Insert / Markup Item from the main menu. In either mode, you will first see a text dialog appear on screen, where you want to paste the code. Then when you Okay that dialog, you will either see a little [ < H > ] box floating in the text stream, or a 100px-square box in the middle of your screen. The latter may be moved and resized to suit your layout. You won’t see anything on screen in the design view, but when you preview or publish, you should see the share button.

All the rest of the code is to provide a better experience for high-DPI devices like iPhone, iPad, and Retinal Macs. You can thread that back into your page by pasting their entire lump of code into your page (or more properly, pasting the part within and into the Page / HTML Markup (Before ) section of your page, and the remainder in a markup item as above.
