ipad / iphone webpage

I have to design a webpage for mobiles.

Questions (o:

  • Would you make a difference between iPad and iPhone sites?
  • What is the best size for iPad and for iPhone pages (Google shows different results, softpress templates are 320x600)
  • Any other suggestions and representations? Things to keep in mind?

Thanks for advise.

  • Would you make a difference between iPad and iPhone sites?

No - personally I wouldn’t but if necessary I would use a different stylesheet for iPhone (not the same limitations with iPad)

  • What is the best size for iPad and for iPhone pages (Google shows different results, softpress templates are 320x600)

I wouldn’t use 320 x 600 unless it was specifically for iPhone. I would use my normal 960 wide page but I would limit my text column widths so that the viewer doesn’t have to scroll sideways. Also keep images smaller (dimensions and file sizes) and don’t have them at the top of the page so that initial view/load time is quick.

  • Any other suggestions and representations? Things to keep in mind?

Available Fonts - Oklahoma payday loan laws. Get Instant Payday Loans Now.

Navigation - remember Hover is not supported.

URLs - keep them short to save typing and when linking text consider spreading the link over 2 words so it is easier to click on.

Those are a few things to consider - there are loads more like the obvious Flash alternative content etc.

What were you intending to do?

Create an alternative site for iphone / iPad or do media queries to check the screen size to then offer a differing style sheet and therefore optimised content just of that device?

The latter is something we are looking at for the website where iphone visitors are growing. So I would be interested if anyone have gone down this path?

I would say the iPad from what I’ve seen copes pretty well with standard sites, smaller devices on the other hand like iPhone I feel really just wan’t content served to them quickly and efficiently and don’t want the “full” website experience.

Sorry not wanting to hi-jack this thread on device screen resolution ~ I’ll start another one here:-

Thank you David

IIs an alternative site to an already existing site.

Do you think that they can go with the existing site for ipads?

They do not offer any flash content. Its a straight down Typo3 at the moment, but it will be changed soon to another software which I dont know yet.

I think it will be an iPhone site.

What would be the best text column width?

Does anyone know a website where the iphone-look can be testet.

Niether of those links correctly displays how an iPhone sees an ordinary site.

The best thing to do is download the iOS SDK which includes an iPhone and iPad simulator.
