iPad, iTunes, Apps

I’ve been searching online but have yet to find an answer so I’m asking here. A friend got her first iPad so I’ve been setting it up but I’ve never owned one myself so some things are fuzzy.

Prior to receiving the iPad dozens of iPhone/iPad apps had been downloaded via iTunes to a Mac, though never installed on any mobile device. Before setting up or syncing the new iPad to the Mac many of the apps were deleted from the iTunes account leaving about a dozen which were then synced to the iPad which are now displayed on the main iPad screen as expected. So far so good.

What’s odd is that when I visit the Purchased section of the App Store from the iPad all of the apps that had been deleted from iTunes prior to setup still appear (along with the ones that are supposed to be there). Why? If they were deleted from the iTunes account shouldn’t they be gone? I don’t see any way to manually delete them from the (iPad) Purchased section. What am I missing?

The latest iteration of the iTunes Store will archive everything you have ever bought in the “cloud” so you don’t have to worry about managing your purchases on individual devices. You can go to the Purchases tab and touch the cloud icon to download any app that’s not on the device.

In iTunes, on your Mac, if you click on the iTunes Store button, and then the Purchased link, you will come to the Purchased page. There, if you select Apps, and then hover over an app icon, you will see the little (x) appear in the top-left of the icon. Click that, and okay the alert, to hide that app from the list. This should carry over across all of your devices, although I haven’t tested it thoroughly.

Thanks Walter. Curious Apple offers no option to delete rather than just hide unused/unwanted apps. They stack up fast. I really dislike the clutter. But I suppose it works, after a fashion.

Speaking of this, how can you view and download iTunes purchases that may have been deleted from your Mac? When I click on (Purchase History > View All) I simply get a list of purchases, but no option to download. I know I’ve seen this before I just can’t remember how to get to it.

I simply get a list of purchases, but no option to download.

Is this because they already exist on the Mac you are viewing from?
