Items not alinging

I am trying to use the alignment tool to line up two or three graphic boxes. Every time I try to, let’s say, align the right edge, the whole stack of boxes collapses together vertically. I have unchecked “combine graphics” in case that is the issue.

Do you know what else causes this?

I have not had problem aligning some rollover elements when they were off the working page, but every time I try to align objects that are on the web page itself, this collapsing happens.

Thanks.

Take a close look at the align dialog. There are two horizontal rows of icons in it. One controls the vertical alignment, the other controls the horizontal. They “stick” independently of one another, if you used this dialog once a while ago to align some things along their top edges, then went back and tried to align some other things along their right edges, you would end up doing both at the same time (since that’s one of the things you can use this dialog to do).

All the way at the left in each row of icons is the “ignore this axis” setting. If you click that in the vertical alignment row, then set the horizontal alignment how you want it, you should be fine.

I do not have that. I have two rows under the Aligning dialog – a top horizontal row and a lower vertical row – but nothing else, no "ignore this axis.

in fact, I can’t even click on the vertical row choice to make it go away.

Here’s the dialog:

Note how the left-most icon in each row does not have any dotted line in it, while the other three to the right of it do? The dotted line is there to show which side of the element will be the guide: left, middle, or right; or top, middle or bottom.

In this screenshot, the dialog is set to ignore horizontal alignment, and to align all selected elements across their top edges.

Oh, sorry. I was looking for “ignore this axis.”

Long day…thanks.
