Layout Issues with Firefox 3

A website I have designed in Freeeway 4 pro now shows up differently in Firefox3 than it does in Safari, Camino, and previous versions of Firefox. The difference is not a good difference, in fact, the layout is now messed up.

I am using tables for the layout. I didn’t think I left it much choice as to how it should look but it seems like a new browser is not agreeing with Freeway. I have not had to edit my work for one browser over another since I started using Freeway when it was FW2 in OS9.

Can anyone confirm this? If I did not change the document, and a new browser shows it differently, can I assume it is an issue with FW 4’s output? As you will see from the example, I’m not dealing with complex layout here.

Try this page out between browsers:

Thanks!

Yes, I can confirm it, although I don’t know why it’s happening I’m
afraid. Long time since I used a table, and I’m not that good at
troubleshooting them.

I’m using tables b/c it is 1 way to compensate for changing html text size. The bottom nav and banner image need to be close to the main text, and there is enough text that even a +1 increase in browser text size can cause an overlap with the banner below. Tables allows the layer to grow and keep the design nice and clean.

Is there a way around this? Why is Firefox 3 deciding to make an issue out of this?

You could build it using nested or in-flow items and get rid of tables all together. It’d accomplish the same “growing” text situation you want and then you’d probably not run into the varying browser appearance across the board.

I can confirm also that the site looks different.

nested items would works, if the left alignment of the text above is even with the image. what happens when the bottom image is bigger than the box above it? I can’t seem to paste an html box into another html box to create the indent. is padding then the solution?

In-flow seems to address browser width, but how would I go about doing this for height?

i used tables (very rare for me to do), b/c it was an easy way to accomplish this layout. now it seems i am going to have to change my design in FW in order to get it to work. this reminds me a bit too much of designing web pages in 1998, but at this point i just want to fix the problem. the fact i have to copy and paste a hundred or so items from table to a new layout is enough to make my hair grey - regardless if it works or not. based on page layout such as this → http://softpress.com/products/freewayfeatures.php , i have little confidence an upgrade to 5.0 would solve this.
