I’ve just setup the homepage for my parents new bed and breakfast and I am having a couple of layout problems, in fact I get the same problems as this quite often.
When I built the page in freeway there is no white gap at the bottom of the page between the lowest photo and the thin grey line above the name and address at the bottom of the page, but when I view it in the browser it appears with a gap as you can probably see (i’ve made a note on it). I don’t want this gap - I have made the page by having a grey background with a white html box, sent to the back, with all the content on top of that, no layers.
I have applied the Vertical Position action set to centre. This does not work in safari.
Any help on this would be really appreciated as I get this problem all the time.
If you look at your page in FireFox, and change the text size via Command-’+’ (or ‘-’ for smaller), you will notice that the whitespace below your image changes with text size.
Examining your page structure, it appears that the images on the left are layer items, and the text areas are not. This means that FW is able to pin the images in a specific plpace, but the text can grow independant of them.
This is a bit of trial and error from my perspective, but what happens if you toggle off the layer option for the images on the left. Hopefully this will cause your page to collapse/grow together with a bit more unity.
Thanks for the reply. I didn’t realise I’d left them as Layers. I changed them as you said but it made the page worse ie the whole of the left hand side moved down so there was a gap at the top and the bottom.
I kind of know whats going on here, but whats really puzzling me is that the text doesn’t fill it’s space before it stretches it’s boxe. What I mean is, I know that using html text means it can get bigger and move things down, but wy does it move down when there is so much space below the end of the text.
Just a thought - there aren’t any invisible returns beyond the last
word are there? Sometimes they lurk and mess things up.
Cheers
Pete
