Library disappeared

When my G5 iMac broke down, I connected the hard drive to an adaptor, plugged it into a new machine and copied Intaglio 2.9.8 and the Preferences files across. Intaglio worked, but the Library had disappeared. I’ve tried reinstalling v2.9.8 and the v3 demo from the installer and while the apps work, the Library isn’t there—it’s disappeared from the Window menu.

The old machine ran OS 10.4.11. The new one has 10.5.1

Any ideas?

The library is stored in the user’s Application Support folder. From your home folder look for:

Home > Library > Application Support > Intaglio

The Library file is in that location (MyName>Library>Application Support>Intaglio). It’s dated November 2009, which is before the computer failed and is 4.9mb so all the saved textures and custom outlines are probably there, but the Library can’t be accessed because there’s no way of selecting it. Is there a way to force the Library menu item to appear in the Window menu? Could this be achieved via an Applescript?

The library usage is stored in the preference file so basically you need to copy the library file(s) and the preference file together to get the library to load correctly.

Nick,
Concerning ‘Library Usage’: there’s no such file on my system.

In your previous reply, you mentioned a ‘Home’ folder. Just to be sure, is this the icon that looks like a house?

I’ve made screengrabs of the files’ locations here:

Are the files in the correct places? Also, are the Library Pages file names correct? They were originally installed on a machine running OS 10.4.11, but the new machine runs 10.6.1.

Thanks,
Ian

Ian, did you say that you were running a G5? I don’t think 10.6 is compatible with PPC architecture.

Nick,

My computer seems to be crashing a lot lately. I think it’s because I have an old Macbook Pro and 10.6.3.

I think the problem is within Safari and websites that support Flash- or more to the point, it is always a
site with Flash that makes my computer freeze up these days. Flash is still 32bit, whereas Safari is 64bit.
(it should be called ‘Slow’ rather than Flash, right?)

I’ve just lost an hour’s worth of Intaglio work, which has really annoyed me.

Is there any chance of including an Autosave function within Intaglio? Most other drawing and design apps have
autosave (Cheetah 3D for one), and it is very useful to be there as an option. It wouldn’t be hard to write in?

What does everyone else think about an autosave function within Intaglio? (Now Schremmer, behave! :wink: )

Same here. My iMac suffers from a sick graphic-board which causes a lot of freezing. As I know from a developer (Cheetah3d) it´s a simple Apple feature - means a line of code.
Can´t live without - never lost more than 2 min of work - and starting the app restores the last session for me. Just great.

Cheers

Frank

Tom,
The new machine has a 3.06 Ghz Intel processor, 4 GB RAM.

The G5 iMac’s hard drive was connected to an adaptor. The adaptor was plugged into the Intel machine and the Library files transferred across. Everything works except the Library.
I’ve had an idea—will report if it works later.

Has any one who is having Mac freezing problems, checked these threads out elsewhere;

First this;

or better still;

then this;

http://innerdaemon.wordpress.com/2010/04/10/sorry-adobe-you-screwed-yourself/

So I concluded that I want the least Flash on my Mac as one can sanely get, so I found a great little thread on ARS technica about “ClickToFlash”, which only allows Flash to work on sites, if you allow it to. Hooray! (Because it seems you can’t uninstall flash very easily either :frowning: ). Flash simply only works with 32bit browsers, and not 64bit ones, like our beloved Safari or Firefox- unless of course, you have Windose. Grrr…

Frank, have you tried this with your iMac?

Nick, I still want Autosave in Intaglio, and cheers to Frank as well, for chiming in for support :slight_smile:

Sorry for the OT.

Tom
