Line Spacing in FW Express

Is this possible?

Apparently it is with the ‘leading’ feature in Pro, which I can’t seem to find in Express.

Thanks.

This function does not exist in Freeway Express, but you can simulate it using the line-height CSS property. Could you try this?

Select a block of text that you want to change, and look in the Styles palette to see which style(s) light up to indicate they are applied to the text.

If one of these styles has a ¶ mark next to it (paragraph symbol), Control-click on it and select Edit Style from the contextual menu. If you see an Extended button in the resulting interface (I don’t have Express, so I can’t check this here) then click it. In the resulting dialog, click New. You will see a new sub-sub-dialog pop up with a Name and a Value field. In the Name field, enter ‘line-height’ (without the surrounding quotes) and in the Value field, enter some number of pixels, immediately followed by the letters px, like 20px. Okay out of the stack of dialogs, and preview your page.

Just as in DTP typography, this number has to be greater than the em-height of the surrounding text. In Express, you can’t set type in pixels, but if you fool with this number, you should be able to find something large enough to break your letters free from one another.

If you don’t have this interface option (Extended) then you will need to do this in the Page / HTML Markup dialog. Without looking at your page code, I can’t tell you precisely how to get there from here.

As always, if you send a link to the page you’re working on, we can help you much more easily.

Walter
