Line wrap and font display problems at small point sizes

I’m using Intaglio 3.0.1. OS 10.4.11 PPC.
I’m using a font at a smaller size that isn’t pre-defined in the font palette (under 9 pt) and I notice problems:

  • Intaglio doesn’t calculate the line wrap properly. It wraps too soon. The same font at the same size in Word doesn’t have any wrapping problems.
  • Intaglio’s screen rendering is poor. (I can live with that, but I notice the same font draws much better at small sizes in Word.)

I’ve tried larger sizes, including those undefined on the font palette, and don’t notice any wrapping or display problems.

This is a PostScript font (I’m pretty sure it’s a type 1).

Any idea what’s causing this? I can work around this by dragging out the width with the right arrow control on the text box. It’s just annoying and I’d love it to work properly.

After printing, I find my assumptions aren’t quite correct. The document prints at the width I dragged the arrow to. Intaglio appears to be properly representing the line wrapping.

It looks like the real problem is that Intaglio can’t properly render the font on the screen. Intaglio displays that the width of the drawn font is much smaller than reality. It makes me think that much more text can be fit on the line.
