Looking for sitemap action

Hello,

I’m using the Site Mapper action from Softpress, version 1.5.3 to automatically create sitemaps, which is working fine to index HTML files. But now I need to extent this to pictures as well.

Do you have a recommendation for me how to automatically create sitemaps of images ? Ideally only of those a specific style has been applied to mark them - this would avoid having blank images or icons indexed.

Thank you.

Tobias.

What would this map do for you? Would it be a visible map, or a Google XML map?

No, it’s just intended being used by search engines.

Have you seen an example where this was done? That’s a new application for an XML site map, in my experience.

For example, have a look at this site map: Gerda Eichner – möblierte Appartements – Wohnen auf Zeit in Oberfranken

I got access to the Google webmaster tools of above website, where the images are shown in a separate statistic.

Fascinating. Maybe one or another of the Web-based map generator widgets could do this as an option. I’m not aware of an Action that can do this, although it wouldn’t be too hard for Freeway to provide the information to one – the images for the entire site are a known collection that can be iterated over in an Action with fwDocument.fwImages, I think.

And it works well. Images submitted this way to Google are appearing faster in the image search. Not sure, if other search engines like Bing are supporting this as type of sitemap.

Yes, web-bsaed map generators may work, but you know… it would be more convenient to have this job done by Freeway during site creation.

File a feature request with Softpress – they wrote the Site Map Action, after all, and they could add this to the system pretty simply, I am guessing. You may want to have the option to exclude any images below a certain set of dimensions, maybe, so your site doesn’t end up being the authoritative source of pixel spacer gifs.
