Macromedia Freehand import?

Hi again.
A great program i love it already. Since i have used Macromedia Freehand for many years i have tons of files in FH6 to FH10 format. Is there any way that this will be possible to import in future versions?

I know i can export them from Freehand in PDF files but Freehands PDF export is not working very well.

Intaglio opens EPS files created in Freehand version 5.5, so later versions will probably work. In Intaglio, go to Preferences>Conversions and tick the boxes that apply to your files.

When the eps file is opened in Intaglio, the colours are duller (probably due to the CMYK to RGB differences), all objects are on a single layer and some text settings don’t translate, but everything can be edited. On my setup, text looks much better in Intaglio.

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply.
But is the Freehand format pure EPS? My problem is that i have more than 700 drawings made in Freehand and i would hope i don’t have to first open every one in Freehand and export them in EPS. So i hoped that Intaglio could read the Freehand format direct.

I don’t know about the Freehand and EPS file formats, but whilst Intaglio opens Freehand EPS files, it doesn’t open Freehand 5.5 files. This suggests that EPS and Freehand are different.

If you Google ‘Freehand to EPS’, you’ll see the problem; there are different versions of Freehand and different types of EPS. Some of the complications are mentioned here:

I have Freehand running in Sheepshaver, which enables FH and Intaglio to be running at the same time. You save the FH file as an EPS and copy it from Sheepshaver to OSX. Then open the copy EPS in Intaglio and start editing. Simple illustrations will transfer with few problems, but more complex work with multiple layers will be challenging.

After reading contributions to the Freehand and Illustrator forums, it seems that Intaglio does a decent job of translating alien vector files.
