Mailing list reactions

I’m stuck-in developing a site for a new nature reserve in the Gambia.

We need a method of keeping in touch with interested parties and hopefully
encouraging them to give their support by way of practical help or in-kind
or Š

What we really need is an integrated mailing/contacts list management tool.
One available on my webhost using Fantastico is “PHP List”
[http://www.phplist.com/] PHP List looks capable and should cope with
managing what we’d need from the list.

Does anyone here have practical experience of using it in association with
FW?

Best wishes Peter

Hi I sent this message a couple of weeks back, but had no responses.
I’m still interested to see of anyone has any experience of PHPList?
I know it can “sort of be done” with mailman, but it’s not ideal.

I installed it about 3 years ago (I assume it’s the same one) for
someone who later decided it was overkill for their needs and went in
another direction and haven’t looked at it since. I don’t know how
much help I can offer at this point but I can try. Perhaps someone
else will step in.

Me, either. I’ve never heard of it.

One of my clients is using something I think he called Campaign manager.
I don’t know much about it - he sends me the code for the form as markup and
I put it into a markup item and it just works - but whether this has the
function and feature set you need I don’t know.
The form uses http://www.createsend.com - but that didn’t tell me anything.
They are a charity relating to peace in the middle east - If you want I can
ask what they are using.
But I expect there are many to choose from.
all the best
Brian

Hi Todd & Walter,

Thanks for your replies Š

The reason I wanted to have an announcement mailing list on the server to
tell people occasionally how their help was making a difference, helping by
educating the local community particularly the children into protecting this
small fragment of original forest in West Africa.

The reason for considering PHPList is because it’s on that is available on
Have-Host’s control panel, and I thought about it because mailman was a bit
clanky for that task.

But I guess I could just keep it simple and have a couple of email
addresses, then set something up in my mail app on the Mac, I use Entourage,
which with a little tweaking and scripting could be setup to manage a
mailing list.

OTOH there is MaxBulk Mailer which has been mentioned on this list a few
times in the past [2003-2005] which could probably also do it locally?

Best wishes Peter

I now think the phpList I was talking about, http://www.phplist.com
is different from what Peter is referring to.

Well the link on Have-Host leads to the same site, but through another site:
http://tincan.co.uk/ for some reason!

Best wishes Peter
