I’m trying to set up a site to accept paypal via Mal’s commerce. Only problem is I keep getting a message ‘It was not possible to connect to your webserver’ when trying to connect to it online. The tutorial says this is likely due to wrong web address being put in - but this is not so. Could someone please help me from going insane! Not the ‘set up a shop in minutes’ experience I was hoping for!

This is probably a question for Mal if it in Mal’s that you are getting the error.
Or is it in FW you are getting this?

Problem is I don’t know where the problem is? Could be FW, Mal’s or a server problem. I get the warning when online and hit the ‘buy’ button which is then supposed to take you to the cart. Maybe need to ask about in Mal’s forums!

here is link:

On the FW tutorial it says 'If you do see this message, the most likely cause is that you have not correctly specified the URL of your shop in the Mal’s e-commerce configuration."
I’m presuming the ‘shop’ is my web address (http://www.knowyouronions.net) which is specified correctly. Not sure what else to do. Many thanks for having a look.

Did you apply the Freeway shop action to the main folder of the site in Freeway?
It looks like its trying to connect to the Freeway settings file in your web site

‘e-shop settings’ have been applied to the site folder, along with ID, mal server and link verification. The ‘buy’ botton has an e-but action on it. http://www.knowyouronions.net is also added to the mal account details for the website url. If the url is not not correctly specified I’m not sure where else it should be.

Have you tried going into the Cart Setup on Mals and manually loading the FW settings from there.
Cart Setup>Advanced Settings>Freeway Settings then check that the web address displayed there is correct and hit the Orange ‘Load Freeway Settings’ button.
Who are you hosted with BTW - just in case there are server peculiarities.

in advanced settings I don’t have any freeway option:
Collect additional data
Remote call
Products for download
Minimum order size
Conversion tracking
Quickbooks
Link verification
Could this be a problem?? In my account details or cart set up I can’t see any mention of freeway!
Are there any sort of files that I need to tell the server about? Site hosted by arrowhead, http://www.theinternet.org.uk/
many thanks for your patience

My next one down is Freeway Settings (also the last in the list)
I think it is worth asking Mals’s the question. It may be to do with the type of account you have. The one I am looking at is the Free one.
Also just found this on their Forums
For some reason Freeway (5 Pro) was generating a file named " malsettingsa.cfg " which was not being recognised. I thought this looked odd and changed the filename manually to " malsettings.cfg " and it loaded correctly. Mal has since confirmed that this was the issue.
The malsettings.cfg file is on the top level of files that you upload to your own server when you upload your Freeway site.
You will also see this file in your Site folder - check the file name is correct. Should be malsettings.cfg

No sign of malsettings.cfg either. Something is wrong! I think I need to start from scratch again and see if I can find the problem. Thank you very much for all your help - I let you know how I get on!!

I have just looged on to a new account at mal’s, got password and loggin in. On tutorial it says For your store to start working, you will need to enable the cart. To do this, check the checkbox labelled “Show cart” in the My Admin section on the right hand side of the Admin Home page, and
then click the Update button beneath to save the changes. I don’t have a ‘show cart’ in right hand section - just ‘local time’.

I think the website has changed completely since the last Freeway tutorial pdf that I have downloaded. There is no ‘management’ section and no ‘freeway’ settings. It is very different on the left hand left than on the tutorial - have they also changed the way an e-commerce site is set up?

The site certainly had a facelift and things aren’t necessarily where they used to be but the set up is essentially the same.
I don’t think you need to do the ‘Show Cart’ bit now.
Delete/remove the FW action and it’s settings in your FW file and publish the site.
Add the action again and put your new account settings in it. Then publish it and have a look for the malsettings.cfg file - it should be inside the folder that you applied the action to. If this was your main site folder then it should be alongside your index.HTML file.
If it’s there then upload to your server and have another go.

Still no joy!! I get a ‘malsettings.cfg’ file in my site folder in the hard drive and also the same in a folder ‘Know Your Onions.freeway_’ which appears everything I upload it. I can’t give up now!!

yes - . mailsetting.cfg file exists in the resources folder on the server, the same as all the other html page files.
