Mal's unable to connect to server

This is driving me nuts, it seems too simple yet it’s not working. I’ve setup my online store using Mal’s eCommerce.

  1. I’ve properly setup my Mal’s account and placed my URL in the proper location under the Admin area - and yes it is typed correctly.

  2. I’ve applied the E-Shop action to my Site Folder and have properly identified my userid, Mal server and Link verification hash in the action setup. Additionally I have created my “buy now” buttons and “view cart” buttons and applied the appropriate actions.

  3. I’ve published my site and uploaded it to my web server, verifying that the malsettings.cfg uploaded to the root directory (it also happens to be in every subfolder - a function of me applying the E-Shop action to the site folder I’m sure) I’ve even changed the permissions on the .cfg file to full RW

Now, when I go to my product page and click view cart or buy now, it sends me to the web page depicted in the Using Freeway 5 Reference pg. 410 - the one that says “Sorry it was not possible to load your new configuration…” and refers me back to the Mal’s site to ensure my URL is correct. I’ve communicated with Mal Stewart, with my Hosting company, I’ve searched the web and still can manage to get this fixed. I don’t believe it’s really this complicated and am at a loss for why it won’t work.

I’m using Freeway Pro 5.3.1

My site is hosted through aplus.net

My site: www.popspedicabs.com

Maybe I’ve been working on the site so long, I’m not seeing the forest for the trees (just completed a one month total re-write of the site upgrading from old PC based app to FW5). Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,
check the URL carefully. This looks wrong to me:

<ww12.aitsafe.com/cf/add.cfm>

It is more likely to start with www than www

Good eagle-eye spotting - but actually, Mal’s Aitsafe server URLs do
normally begin with ww and a number - just two rather than three
letters.

Is he up to 12 for his numbered servers? It could be ww1 or ww2 - typos can cause all kinds of confusion.

Yes, the “ww12” is correct.

Should the eshop action not just be applied to the http://www.popspedicabs.com/Online Store folder (rather than the whole site) and so then be referred back to http://www.popspedicabs.com/Online Store/ - by Mal’s

After making this post and seeing that the links didn’t display properly on the Forum has given me an idea why this is not working.

Is it because you have a space in the “Online Store” folder name - try changing it to Online_Store

And of course just apply the eshop action to Online_Store

Thanks David, but that didn’t work either.

I went back and removed the E-Shop action from my site folder - re-established it under the “store” folder (renamed to one word for ease of testing this), updated the URL in my Mal’s setup, deleted all instances of the malsettings.cfg on my web server - published the site and uploaded, then tried one of the buttons on a product page - same “can’t find server” message.

I was working with tech support at my ISP and they indicated that they couldn’t launch the .CFG file, basically it’s an unknown file type. They said they ought to be able to initiate the .cfg file from the server and it should do what it’s supposed to (they’ve done it with other cfg files for other users). They said the malsettings.cfg was not the right format to be a .cfg file. go figure.

I seem to think there ought to be more information in the .cfg file - this is all that’s there (default settings as I haven’t changed the appearance of the cart):

bgcolor_color=#66CC99
cart_width=600
cart_align=Left
font=Arial
font_size=2
bground=
text_color=#000000
link_color=#0000FF
vlink_color=#800080
alink_color=#FF0000
table_color1=#C0C0C0
table_color2=#808080
table_text1_color=#000000
table_text2_color=#FFFFFF

(each variable is on a separate line in the actual file - it just doesn’t put the line breaks in here)

I really expected to see some reference to the Mal server in here, maybe something related to my userid since those data elements are entered into the FW action “E-Shop” how do they make into the cfg file?

I’ll try and call FW support next. Course I’m about ready to chuck the whole Mal’s setup and try something else, but now it’s starting to turn into a mission to make this work.

Just to close the loop with those that offered their assistance, first off - thanks. I appreciated the help.

As it turns out my original hosting plan was a low-level plan on a shared server, the ISP had security set to really restrict outside calls to the server. Once I upgraded my hosting plan to a server with a dedicated IP address - it worked just fine. Yay!
