Marking Pages in Site Folder to not Upload

Is there a way to mark “working” pages in the site folder so they do not upload when you FTP the lot to your server?

Thanks.

Nope. But this has been an often requested feature… hopefully we’ll see it added one of these days.

How could that not have been added right from the start?

Couldn’t an action be made to achieve this? Anyone?

I dunno. It does seem to be a bit of an omission, but Freeway’s publish/upload has always been all or nothing. I don’t believe it is alone in this regard. I find it a bit amusing you have control over publishing individual page elements but not pages.

I don’t believe an action is possible as it would have to intervene right between Freeway’s comparison/upload code.

I work around this in one of two ways:
1.) Just publish the site and upload it manually with FTP client.

2.) Put working pages in a subDir and set up that directory on the site host with a .htaccess file.

Oh well, I guess I’ll start to push it all up by hand. I tend to have a lot of variations of pages in FW, and if that’s the only way around it what can a guy do.

Appreciate it.

“…what can a guy do.”

Depending on the types of “variations,” you might just let FW post the variations. If no pages in your site link to the variations pages, no one will be any the wiser that they exist as hidden elements of the site, right?

hmmm, doubtful.

Remember robots that might list them. So if on air, it could be detected or to exclude them like:

(Hope this works)

or put them all in a folder and protect it. Just a sidestep, cause my root does not allow the use of .htaccess.

Cheers

I often have pages in a FW document that I am developing and do not want people to see. What I do is create a folder called /lab inside of FW then put all my developing pages in there. I can create links back and forth and build the page as normal. Then when the page is approved I can drag it out of the /lab folder into wherever it needs to go and Freeway rewrites all the links for me.

Remember to put robots.txt on your server to stop any indexing of pages inside the /lab folder.

You could also password protect that folder (which is what I do).

These 3 things stop anyone seeing your pages and means you can keep everything within the one document - nice and easy.

Another little tip for keeping things inside of FW is create a new master page and call it ‘graphics’. You can now use that page for all you buttons and graphics and building of test items without fear of it being viewed online as it won’t be uploaded.
