Mobile Apps

Random question I know. I have been asked if I could design an app for a new client…I have looked briefly at Xcode.

Just wondered if any Freeway users had developed any apps and where did they start.

Look forward to hearing any ideas.

Hi there.

Firstly you can create mobile apps using HTML, CSS and Javascript - so you can use Freeway - along with a third party interface like PhoneGap http://phonegap.com/

I have the luxury of a teenage son who reads and writes objective-c (Xcode programming language) with a level of enthusiasm that I’d struggle to conjure up for a great book.

He found out enough to get started just watching youtube videos, and when he was ready for more, we sent him on a course at Amsys Training http://www.amsys.co.uk/

They were great with hin, even though he was just 13 at the time. I’m not sure where you are located, but if you google for iOS dev in or around your area, there will no doubt be groups you could join to find out more. Just like the Freeway Community, the iOS folk are very supportive and there are lots of forums to answer questions you may have.

So, if you are into Chickens / Hens, you can check out his app for hen keepers http://ichicken.syn-apps.co.uk (built with Freeway)

If you Drive you can see his GloveBox app here - http://glovebox-app.com

On the next release of Glovebox (being submitted to Apple today) it will have a name change, due to my over zealous faith in mankind respecting one and other, and the fact that someone else has recently trademarked that name for use in a mobile application - which they have yet to develop.

Moving on…

I hope this helps to go someway towards answering your question - and giving my now 15 year old sons apps a little plug

Alan.

Thanks Alan

Firstly, you must be very proud of your son, what a great job he has done producing the Apps. Hats off to him.

Thanks for the links, I will give it a go. Phonegab looks useful.
