On my underlined text I would like to move the underline further away from the text i.e. add a couple pixels of padding(?) between the text and the underline. Is this possible?

I never use the “underline” option, but instead I apply “border-bottom” to the text/links. When the distance is not to your satisfaction, just apply some padding-bottom to it … (negative values to raise the border).

Padding can never be negative. It may appear to work, but it’s not valid.
