mp3 won't load first time

Hi everyone.
Thanks to for the help in solving previous problems I’ve had in getting my amateur little website going.

But I have a new one that seems like a little bug.

I have mp3s on my site, and when I preview the page from freeway, every thing is fine.
However when I visit my site from my browser, or someone else’s browser, only some of the mp3’s load.
But then I hit refresh, and they all appear.
So everything is where it should be, but some don’t load on first page load.

www.sanctuarybirds.com

any ideas?

Thanks
aleos

There are a couple of things I think you can look at to try and resolve this. Looking at the page in Safari’s web inspector I can see the page generates these errors;
Resource interpreted as document but transferred with MIME type audio/mpeg.
Resource interpreted as document but transferred with MIME type .

Basically this means the server doesn’t know how to handle this file type and sent the data as plain text. It was then left to the browser to figure out what to do with this. Open a support ticked with your host and see if they can add these MIME types to your server so it at least knows what these audio files are.

The other issue I spotted was that all of the audio files have spaces in them (‘painting abstract.mp3’ for example) which when encoded becomes ‘painting%20abstract.mp3’. Although it shouldn’t pose an issue it is always best to avoid file names with spaces just to be sure.
Regards,
Tim.

thanks man. I’m looking into those solutions.

I don’t understand though, that sometimes the quicktime files load and sometimes they take one refresh to fully load.

sorry to bother you again man.

I wrote to my hosting company, they’re going to get back to me.

This never happened before until I used freeway. So I suspect it must be the app.
I used dreamweaver before with the same audio files.

Anyideas?

They load fine here, they just take a minute or so because of their size.

They all load with no “refresh”?

Yep. At first I thought they weren’t but I tried in other browsers and found that the QuickTime Q would be shown while they were loading, then the usual controller would appear.

hhhm.
It dosen’t load for me in safari or firefox.
Just the Q, or sometimes a question mark.
The page finishes loading and nada.

man, I’m getting bummed.

thanks for the help though

If you get a question mark, that means that the file encoding wasn’t
recognized by the QuickTime plugin on your computer. You might want to
run these files through QuickTime Pro and export them again as new
files. Fiddle with the encoding settings to be sure you don’t pick
anything extra fancy for the codec.

thanks for al your feedback guys.

I’m very surprised to hear it works for some of you.
I just checked on a computer away from my home and the same old problem arises.

there should be 4 audio files on the sound page, and 3 in the art page. Nestled in the carousel.

Can someone confirm that they see all these when first entering the page, without refreshing.

At least I’m coming through on ipads. Nice.

thanks for all your time.

I see 4 player controls on sound page but it takes about 30 seconds for all four sound files to load. I also see three on the art page and takes about as long to load.

Yes to 4 on sound page and all there on initial load.

On the Arts page I am getting the first audio file as a QT movie file but the others are fine - and it still plays OK but as a movie soundtrack.

thank you everyone for pitching in.

Though it appears to work for some people, I obviously am doing something wrong.

As most of you have seen my website, could anyone advise me on a sound way of applying sound to a web page in freeway. I have searched the manual and found only a few mentions of putting mp3/quicktime audio files on a site.

I don’t want anything fancy, I just want my online portfolio to be functional and clear.

thanks

OK - I see another potential problem

Resources/peggy’sperspective.mp3

Characters such as ’ apostrophes should NOT be used in file names - they are not acceptable. Stick to - hyphens and _ underscores
