Need help getting my boss's site updated

Hi there
I am going insane trying to update my boss’s site. I have used Transmit to download the whole site into Freeway pro. I have made some editing (text) changes and uploaded and all the formatting (navigation, and so on) has disappeared in the page I changed. All my new text displays filling the whole page with no paragraph breaks and no sign of the text box they should be in.

Is there a way to update a site you have not created in Freeway without it getting corrupted?
I am (obviously) a novice and would really welcome some advice.
Thanks so much!
I really only need to change some text and add some photos…
Alison

The daunting task of “Importing HTML” is really a game of chance. Some of the time it’s a win and other times it couldn’t find it’s rear-end with both hands. In my experience I took whatever I could get and worked with it. If it was text changes I’d say to open it in Text-Mate and make the changes manually until you can fix-up the not working Freeway version, but with you wanting to add some photos that would require more.

If it’s an easy rebuild I’d try and rebuild it as fast as I could and then save-save-save. You could always commission someone to put it back together for you. That’s about all I could think of.

Freeway is really great for creating a new site and keeping it updated. As far as importing and updating a site that was originally created outside of Freeway, not so much. It can really depend on how the original site was developed.

If the site is something you might consider doing over, this is a great article on how to do it. Once you’ve recreated the site in FW, you’ll always have it in there for future updates, and maintaining a site in FW is much easier that trawling through HTML code looking for where you need to make changes. Think of your long term happiness here.
