New user problem

I just downloaded the Freeway 5 free trial and started the tutorial. But, nearly at the beginning, I’ve run into a problem. Let me say first that I’m not technical and things must be VERY simple and straightforward for me to understand. I know NOTHING about website building.

The tutorial says:

Select the Appearance tab of the Inspector, click on the Image pop-up menu and choose Select… Navigate to the Tutorials folder then, from the “Tutorial1_media” folder, choose “header_bar.gif” and click Open.
+++++++++++

My problem is that I don’t see a “Tutorial1_media” folder. I do see a folder named Tutorial 1 and then in that is a Media folder, but there’s nothing in it, so I can’t find this “header_bar.gif.”

Someone on a Mac list I’m on sent me links to video tutorials, but I had a problems with them, too. I clicked to start watching Tutorial 1 and it started smoothly but after a few seconds, the visuals weren’t changing to match the audio. I clicked on the screen to see if anything would change and then the visual would change but the audio continued just fine. I had to click on the screen anytime I wanted it to schange, but then the audio would stop and I’d have to click on the button to make it continue. In short, it’s not working well at all. The audio does fine, but to see what the fellow is talking about, I must click constantly to start and stop the video but it disrupts things so much that I can’t follow it. Thinking it was just a fluke with Tutorial 1, I tried the next one but encountered the same thing.

I have a Mac G4, OX 10.4.11.

Can anyone help? I always get stumped on the simplest things!!! :-(((

With online videos like this you would be better to download the file to your hard disk and watch it from there rather than relying on your Internet connection to keep pace with your viewing speed (especially just now when everybody is at home hogging bandwith)

I am not familiar enough with what files are in the Tutorials/Media folder but it may be that you have an incomplete download there as well. It might be worth downloading it again.

Sorry, but I have another dumb question. When I go to the software
site, it only gives me buttons to click to start the video and under
“downloads” at the top, there’s no option to download these video.
So, how can I download them to my computer?

Do you have the QuickTime Pro software from Apple? It’s $30US well
spent, in my opinion. Among a zillion other things, it enables you to
download any QuickTime content (unless it’s been locked by the author)
to your hard disk. Click on the little triangle menu widget at the
right end of the controller bar to expose the menu with this option.

Another thing you could try would be to look at the link to the video
– if it’s a link to the movie itself, you can just Control-click on
it, and choose Save linked file… from the contextual menu. But if
the link is to a page or script (in order to display the video in a
browser window) then this trick will not work.

Can you post the link you’re trying to view? One of us can figure it
out if these instructions don’t help you do it.

Nope, I don’t have QuickTime Pro. I never get anything that’s not essential since I don’t know what most of it is for or what it does or how to do it.

Here’s the link where the videos are: http://www.softpress.com/support/usingfreeway.php

Any help will be much appreciated.

IT’S TIME TO START THINKING ABOUT YOUR VALENTINE’S PET PORTRAITS. SEE BELOW.

See sample PET PORTRAITS and GRAPHIC DESIGN at http://www.ThisGreatDesigner.com.

Buy various animal-themed (vegetarian, spay/neuter, anti-dogfighting) T-shirts, mugs and other paraphernalia at http://www.cafepress.com/stirthepuddin. Check back often. New items are added frequently.

Welcome to the forum

Don’t know if they’re the same videos, but take a look at Freeway Moments in iTunes, which should be on your Mac. They are about five minutes or so long and one of them is a ‘getting started’.

Go to the iTunes store, do a search for Freeway. It should come up with a list of the videos available. I’m not on the Mac at present, but I think it gives a ‘get’ button. They are free and will download on to your Mac and play in iTunes. You then have a permanent reference tool on your Mac.

This is a great forum for help with Freeway and there are plenty of knowledgeable people here ready to help. Good luck!

Try clicking on any of the following links:

http://www.softpress.com/movies/tutorial_1_HQ.mov

http://www.softpress.com/movies/tutorial_2_HQ.mov

http://www.softpress.com/movies/tutorial_3_HQ.mov

Those will link you directly to the movie files, which should open in
your browser, and from there you can use Save As from the main menu to
save them to your hard disk. This option will only appear after the
entire movie has downloaded to your browser.

This is great advice and I’ve dowloaded a few of the videos, however some of them won’t donwload to my iTunes… don’t know why. Just thought I’d point that out.

Thanks, Carolyn

Hi Carolyn - have to admit I’ve only downloaded a couple from iTunes store, but with no problems. I’d already downloaded most of them via QT Pro.
Might be worth emailing Softpress support with details of your setup and the episodes causing you problems. This page gives details of other ways of watching.

I’m using a G5 iMac, Tiger 10.4.11 and was still on iTunes 7 until yesterday.
