Older Browser Prompt

Hi All,

We don’t want to just stop supporting older browsers without providing users with a thoughtful notice. I have done some digging and have found quite a few options. Does anyone have a recommendation for an alert script that would allow us to choose what browsers and versions to detect as well as allow us to customize the page or prompt that it would dish up?

Regards, Dave

Did you ever get an answer to your question? I certainly appreciate
your thoughtful regard for the users of “older” browsers, since I’m
using an “ancient” 2-year-old browser myself.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for asking. No response as of yet. At some point we will be moving to some type of solution like stated for all our sites as it is cost prohibitive to be patching and fixing IE and older browser issues.

It is our thought that users will respond to a thoughtful and helpful notice and eventually move forward. At the very least they will know why their experience is a little bumpy.

Hi Tim,

Thank you, this one was at the top of my list. Did not see a way to have it link out to a page we could dish up,it only went to there dedicated page and there were some broken links and such.

Hi Dave,
I see their code is covered under the MIT license which means you could, if you wanted, just download it and change it to suit your needs. Alternatively something like this shouldn’t take too long to put together if you wanted a custom solution. Did you want to sniff out browser versions of features?
Regards,
Tim.

Thank you both. Walt I will give your action a go and see how it does. My goal would be to have control over browsers and versions as well as the ability to customize what the user sees and the links they are sent to. Tim I think I see where you are going with this.
