order of loading

Is there some magic way to specify in what order a page loads?

If one has things like ads on a page, the page often stalls waiting

for the server from the ad company to spit out their contribution.
It would be nice to have the real content loaded first so the visitor
can be reading it while the ads and other things load. Is this
possible? How?

TIA

Hi Peter,
Normally no. The browser will request the page and the page will, in
turn, supply back a list a resources the page needs and these can turn
up at the browser in pretty much any order depending on size, speed
and how the information was routed. There are a couple of things that
you could try to delay the ads from loading until the page has loaded
most or all of it’s content. Assuming the ads are pulling their
content using JavaScript you can add the defer attribute to the script
tag to tell IE to continue loading the page and not stop and wait for
the ads to load before completing the page load. You can find more on
defer here;

Another option, that again uses JavaScript, is to set an onload event
on the body element so that once the page has completed loading you
then write the ads into the page using a series of document writes.
It’s a bit involved, however, if you are unfamiliar with manually
adding the code.
Regards,
Tim.
