Out of site, out of mind

Very very very nice!! But maybe not have a picture of some guy with a camera all over it, it’s kinda strange.

Is it the “Great Reviews” that are so bothering and repetitious?

First of all … I do like the design a lot. It’s a big improvement from where it came from anyway. This site brings a feel of professionalism that it lacked.

My (personal) problem only lies within the useage of the eye-catchers in the footer. The badges of those who gave Freeway that great review. Personally I don’t like that kind of name-dropping (or ‘waving flags’ as we call it in Holland anyway). I can image being proud of the well deserved reviews and awards; after all … Freeway is a kick-ass app. But why bother the visitor every single page with it? Just leave it to the Awards-page.

Just keep it smooth, keep it clean with clear-cut images, and avoid throwing around the colourfull Vegas-like badges and banners that draws the attention away from the essence.

Again, this is my personal experience. I’m a big fan of Freeway, and it bothered me that the site didn’t do Freeway any favours.

A lot of people I know are blown away by what you can do with it after I showed them some work. But after their enthousiasm was triggered, they all stumbeled over the same thing … softpress.com just didn’t look that great for a company that makes software that should blow you away. It just didn’t make sense.

Man has to be carefull not to make the same mistake again; the new site shows a company, shows a great product that you can’t ignore. I like it.

Richard

Some more nit picking…

  • The macuserscore.png image on the reviews page is missing:
    http://www.softpress.com/reviews/
  • I’m sure there is a perfectly valid reason why the orphaned text in
    the ordered list item is in the code but it appears to be the one
    thing that is causing the home page (and maybe others) not to validate;
    do not delete
Can the text be wrapped in a list item and still be useful to Expression Engine or whatever keeps this in the code? You need to remove the large sticks that potential users will use to beat you down with and validation of the site is a first port of call IMHO. * Check with Google exactly who links into the Softpress site (try 'link:www.softpress.com') and what pages they are linking to. If the traffic matters to you make sure that you redirect users with a permanent redirect (301). * The copyright in the footer seems rather odd for a company that has been in business since 1993; "Copyright © Softpress Systems Ltd, 2002–2009. All rights reserved." I'm not sure where the 2002 comes from. * I'd like to see more attention to SEO in the site and think that working the content around a core set of terms would help with rankings. There is a great block on intro text on the home page for example under 'Why Freeway' that is laced with great terms but are all unlinked. Regards, Tim.
