Page load delay?

I’m finishing up a website and I’m having trouble with a few galleries. Go to this webpage http://idealynx.com/clients/cs/Projects/andersons.html and click on the navigation text at the bottom of the project description. It looks like this:

< Previous Project | Menu | Next project >

As you’ll see this is nothing more than a simple page link. When you press the Previous or Next Project links you’ll get a red page flash, which is probably due to Showcase loading the gallery images. Quite frankly, my customer probably doesn’t care about the slight delay, but there has to be a better way to do this.

Would a Showcase slideshow embedded in Carousel work or is that just adding even more overhead? Should I use Carousel or some other photo gallery instead of Showcase? Should I consider using Showcase thumbnails instead? Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I can see the whole page load when I click on those links which to me is an expected behaviour. You can try and minimise the load times for each subsequent page load (the resources used in the previous and next pages) by experimenting with preloading the larger showcase images used on these pages. Take the images and load them into a hidden layer or add them as backgrounds to 1 pixel layer items.

Obviously this will make the initial page load slower but should pull these images from the browser’s cache when the subsequent page is viewed.

This will always be a gamble as you’ll be making the site actually slower for users just wanting to look at the page they loaded.
Regards,
Tim.

Good suggestions. Quite frankly, I’m probably making too big of a deal about this.
