Page Not Scrolling

Hello - I am updating a web site with Freeway 5 and have come upon a problem whereby a new page I have created will not scroll down to show the lower part in Freeway’s Preview or in any browser.

Here is a link to the page:

http://www.thecallanishgroup.com/Services/DHD/Exhibitions/expositionfloorp.html

The rest of the site is working well but this page just does not want work. The Page size is 830 W x 800 L. What is strange about this situation is that when I created the page last night with my Macbook Pro hooked up to my cinema display it scrolled properly. Now when I try to work with it/view it on the Macbook Pro only I have the non-scrolling problem.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Pete -

Crikey! What browser are you using? I have the same problem in both Safari and Firefox.

I’m using Firefox. It opened without scrollbars but when I resized
the window to encroach on the page area the scrollbars appeared. I
did notice that the menu dropdowns on the Hybrid Disc page are
obscured though.

In Firefox for me not all the page scrolls.

The text about the CD, a layer of the stand layout and part of the background are fixed in place while the rest scrolls.

This may be related to new a behavior in FW5 that i’ve noticed myself missing. For example, when using an html box intended to have in-line objects, in order for the box and it’s contents to correctly grow and push items downward ALL inline items MUST be set to undefined height within the main html box. If this is not done then you get things like boxes growing behind fixed size objects.

It seems to me that Firefox can work slightly differently from
computer to computer. i have just had a bug resolved by Softpress and
during that process Firefox had to be checked on two SP machines to
see what i was seeing on my Mac. I looked again at the Callanishgroup
site to double check that I hadn’t jumped in with a hasty observation
but really i can’t find anything wrong with the scrolling at all.

I’m curious how the Callanish stones got to Colorado though…

So I fixed the problem after alot of testing in Freeway. The grid was set as a background image for the page, and despite being the exact same size as the page (800 x 800) as you could see the bottom would never appear, either in Freeway Preview or in any browser.

By simply drawing a small graphic with no fill/outline and placing it on the bottom of the page the entire page is now available to scroll through in both Freeway Preview and internet browsers.

I do not know if this is a bug with Freeway or what, but if you set an image to be a page background in Freeway then this problem will appear.

In regard to the Callanish Stones, the business owner spent alot of time as a youth in the Western Isles.

Thanks to all who poked around the site and found other problems.

The background image is not considered page content. A page has to have html content of some kind as you have discovered.

I incorporate a lot of images into my WebSite Designs, nearly all of which
pass through PhotoShop before Freeway. I have a particular PhotoShop query
which is driving me crazy, not to mention wasting considerable time and
effort. I am running PhotoShop CS(1) on a G3 specced up Pismo Laptop,
running OSX 10.4.11.

In theory, double clicking on a selected image, or dragging the image to the
PhotoShop icon, or setting a third party app such as Media Pro to open
images in PhotoShop should do just that, but all that happens is PhotoShop
opens, or comes to the front, BUT WITHOUT opening the requisite image. I
cannot find any preference within PhotoShop which has been either
checked/unchecked to cause images to fail to open, and frankly I am at a
loss as to how to cure the problem.

Any advice from any PhotoShop experts would be much appreciated. I should
say that dragging images to Preview, or Graphic Converter works just fine,
and they open without problems

Many thanks

Neil, sorry no help here, but I can second this. Not all of the time,
just intermittently, and now the same has started happening to
Illustrator files (either the Illustrator eps’ don’t open or they
decide to open in Photoshop)

If you select your file and “File>Get Info” then go down to “Open With” it should say Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop depending on the file you have selected. If it doesn’t then change it. Then click the “Change All…” button. This should help with any file being opened in the wrong application.

I’m always in Photoshop but haven’t come across the problem of it not opening files when asked to myself. But, I have seen on various forums that it is probably due to a missing scripting file called “Adobe Unit Types”.

Hereis a link that may help:

Thanks Nathan, tried all that, but no luck. In fact in one respect
it’s made things a bit worse.

For example, take an eps file which can be both a Photoshop and
Illustrator filetype. If you ‘get info’ for this then 50% or whatever
of your files are going to try and open up in the wrong programme.

But as Neil and me are experiencing, the files are ‘trying’ to open,
the application launches (or comes into focus for want of a better
phrase) but the file doesn’t actually open.

As in my previous post there is an Adobe TecNote covering this situation,
title of TechNote:

Image doesn’t open when you double-click it or drag it to the Photoshop icon
(CS-CS2 on Mac OS X v10.3-10.4)

Thanks for all the advice and hints guys. By a combination of this Forum,
Adobe PhotoShop Forum, and our devoted local Oxford Mac Users Group
(OxMacUg), at long last, and obviously dating right back to my changeover to
OSX 10.3, it would appear that we have actually identified the problem. The
solution however might still take a while to fix, as I inherited my version
of PhotoShop CS when I purchased my LapTop via eBay, and consequently do not
currently have access to a PhotoShop CS Installation Disc.

The problem would indeed seem to be the lack of the “Adobe Unit Types”
Scripts file, somehow deleted when the 10.3 &/or 10.4 Archive and Install
takes place. What is irritating is that while the Adobe Forum answer was
originally posted in December 2003,and while the Adobe Tech Support article
to which Trevor and Peter linked is dated April 2007, a 10.3&/or 10.4
Archive and Install, or indeed re-install, still breaks PhotoShop CS
today!!!

I have searched all my HDs and backups, and while I found a hint of the
“Adobe Unit Types” Scripts file last evening, today I can’t track it down,
so if anyone is still running PhotoShop CS - aka PhotoShop 8 - and could
mail me directly a copy of the “Adobe Unit Types” Script file, I really
would be extremely grateful. This File can be found in
Computer>System>Library>ScriptingAdditions.

Many thanks for all your input, at least we have now identified the problem,
all I need now is to re-install the solution.

Because of problems like this, I almost exclusively use right-click to select the App I need to force open the file (unless I want it to open in the default that is).

As there are times when preview is needed, and times when photoshop, or illustrator is needed. Same goes for other text files, like .html, opting for Safari, Firefox, of textwrangler.

Sorry its not a fix, but just to share a method of working.

Hi David,

And thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, because of my installation of PhotoShop still missing that elusive “Adobe Unit Types” Script file, right click doesn’t solve the problem in this instance, I only wish that it did.
