Hi guys,

Thankyou so much for your interest in my PhotoShop problem. It is indeed the
case that my Computer/System/Library/ScriptingAdditions Folder was empty of
the “Adobe Unit Types” File, but so far, after several attempts at double
clicking a test jpeg after re-installing a couple of different AUT Files,
there has been no improvement, and a double click still fails to open the
jpeg image. Frustratingly enough, a misplaced drag and drop onto the Adobe
image Ready Icon opened the jpeg in Image Ready without any hassle. But as
for PhotoShop, I’m still looking for a solution.

I guess a boner CS Installation is probably going to be my final answer.

Thanks again for answering my not entirely Freeway query

Note that the path to my AUT file is not the same as the one you suggested.

Have you tried putting it in here instead?

Mine is in

Computer>Library>ScriptingAdditions>Adobe Unit Types if you want it.

Yours is

Aaaagh! System/Library belongs to Apple! Don’t mess with that part of
the filesystem – it’s like mucking around in the Resources folder
behind Freeway’s back. All sorts of ugliness may ensue…

That is why I was suggesting to Neil that he had put it in the WRONG place and should be putting it in

Computer>Library>ScriptingAdditions>Adobe Unit Types

and NOT in

Computer/System/Library/ScriptingAdditions

Yep, Walter, I know, I’ve read David Pogue as well, and I do realise that by
tampering with the Holy Grail of System/Library I have been in danger of
imperilling my immortal soul, or bringing to an end Life, the Universe, and
Everything, but the first possible solution I read from the Adobe Forum
actually stated in part "Find “Adobe Unit Types”.Copy it into: /Library/ScriptingAdditions/ ". This I misread to mean
System/Library/ScriptingAdditions. My mistake was further compounded by the
fact that System/Library actually contained a ScriptingAdditions folder,
which in turn contained Scripting Addition Icons, while the
MyComputer/Library Folder didn’t even contain a ScriptingAdditions folder,
leave alone any actual Scripting Addition Icons.

So as always, what this proves is that when all else fails - RTFI - (Read
The Frigging Instructions) - as I am delighted to say that when I created a
ScriptingAdditions folder in the MyComputer/Library Folder, and installed
the “Adobe Unit Types” Scripting Addition, Bob is once more confirmed as my
Mother’s Brother, and for the first time in eighteen months I can now double
click on a jpeg image, and have it open in PhotoShop. WaayHaay!!!

So much heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped, and in particular as always
to Walter, who started me thinking, and to DeltaDave for re-emphasising
where I had gone wrong. If only the more serious problems of Life, the
Universe and Everything could as easily be solved by the combined efforts of
Freeway & OxMacUg.

Just to briefly summarise for Trevor & Richard, and anyone else irritated by
this problem, this is the solution which worked for me.

There should be a Folder named found here in YOUR
Computer/Library Folder, and it should contain the “Adobe Unit Types” File,
like this -

YourComputer>Library>ScriptingAdditions>Adobe Unit Types

Many thanks again guys, particularly in answering a more or less OT query.
