Page positioning issues

Hi all,

I’m testing some different layout designs but am having some problems getting the page centred. The page size is the same for all pages and the alignment is set to centred, in fact the two examples are both from the same master page.

You’ll see this one - http://www.thetorch.com.au/sport.php - is centred correctly and has no extraneous space at the bottom or on the right.
This one however - http://www.thetorch.com.au/testlayout.php - just refuses to centre properly and it adds lots of additional white space below and to the right of the content (btw I know the links don’t work and some layering needs work, I’m just trying to get the basic position right).

I’ve tried removing one item at a time and just when I think I’ve found the problematic item, another item seems to cryptically create the issue. It seems to relate to some boxes that were rendering as Gifs (rounded corners) but I’m unable to pin it down.

If anyone can suggest where this extra space might be coming from it would be appreciated.

PS, please don’t laugh at my designs, I’m still in ‘testing phase’

Well, I can answer my own question and I guess it’s a quirky bug.

I went to the items that had rounded corners which were set to type GIF. If I switched them to HTML, the item suddenly grew to about double the width and height. This means they were now hanging off both the right hand side and bottom of the page. Dragging them back to the correct size and resetting them to GIF now renders the page correctly. I’ll check tomorrow if setting custom corners has any affect on the item size as they all had custom radii corners. It’s just very strange that they were invisibly larger than they were displaying.

Hi Kim

Interesting to see that you have had the same problems with centering that I have had. At times I have just deleted the page and started again and the newer page seemed to work fine.

BTW I’m in Australia too…

Elizabeth

This solution sounds like an issue with how the outer bounds (corners) of the graphic box are being calculated. I remember seeing this in Freeway 2 or 3, haven’t seen it lately. When I saw it, I reasoned that the particular font I was using had an enormous em height (it did, because it was a big curly swashy italic). I ended up exporting the graphic box and re-importing it as a pass-through to work around that.
