I’d like my website page title to be more descriptive. I know the easy way to do this is to change the name of each page, but I like having simple names like “Home” and “Contact Us” for the FreeWay Pro interface. Is there a way to accomplish this in FWP?

I tried the Retitle Page action you recommended and I can get it to work when in preview mode from within FWP, but if I upload the site to GoDaddy the retitling of the page doesn’t work.

Hi Kelly; the ‘Title’ field in Freeway’s Inspector will hold an awful lot of text. For instance, you could have (in my case) ‘photography and web design in the mid Cornwall area’ (and much more than that if need be) and the filename in Freeway could be ‘index.html’, and the menu item for that page can be whatever you want it to be, for instance: ‘Home’. Or am I misunderstanding what your problem is? You don’t need to change the name of any pages in order to be able to put what you want in the ‘Title’ field in Freeway.
Paul, I just discovered a few minutes ago that was exactly why I was using the Retitle Page action. Unfortunately, when you have a lot of text, at first glance the action looks empty.
Upon entering text in the Title field in the Meta Plus action, I keep getting the following java script warning: “WARNING: The title is currently 17 characters long. The length of your title should be between 50 and 80 characters long.” Then it gives me the options to click “abort” or “OK”. It finally accepts it and leaves the title in the field.
What does java script have to do with the title field, and if I click “abort” or “OK”, will it cause any problems with indexing? My SEO colleague says she is unaware of having to use a minimum # of characters.
There should be a checkbox in the Action interface called ‘Assistive mode’. With this switched on the Action will post alerts like the one you are seeing (the alert is driven by JavaScript which is why you see this mentioned) suggesting if you have too much or too little content in the field. Simply switch the checkbox off and the Action will keep quiet and let you put as much or as little information in these fields as you like.
Regards,
Tim.

Thank you, Tim. I understand now. I was mostly confused and concerned by the “JavaScript alert”, but see that it has nothing to do with Java other than being driven by it.
