A live in-browser app demo http://bit.ly/1myFm7W. Gotta love Panic.

If I just need to edit HTML and CSS can I get this instead of Coda2?

I suppose so, sure. Though not necessary, it’s intended as a companion app to Coda. But I would bet at some point you’ll need or want a more full-featured editor, be it Coda, Sublime, TextMate, Brackets etc. I find editing on an iPad is ok for quick stuff but annoying for anything more intensive.

If you want to work exclusively on an iPad, sure.

I’ve got both Diet Coda and Textastic

I usually end up using Textastic maybe that will change when Diet Coda gets an iOS7 interface but I don’t think so.

That is when my only access is on iPad.

I still recommend the Mac version (Coda2) but that’s just me.

I use it all the time to create everything from small tests to large
projects. It’s just too damned easy to work out the framework, then just
rebuild in Freeway Pro where “testing” is just more complicated, and by the
time you work out a deep, complex project, you’re up against fiddly things
like crashes or style issues.

Here’s an example that I built first in coda, then rebuilt in FWP -

One I am working on now -

So much easier to create more complex diversions or try new CSS styles
without having to fight a stubborn programming interface - like FWP. And
with the user Clip library, I can assemble all my favorite bits of code or
Freeway specific code with just drag and drop. This let’s me plan page/site
construction very flexibly. Then by moving it into FWP I can benefit from
Freeway’s automated code generation to implement a structure I’ve already
envisioned and worked the basics out.

Any deals on Coda 2 right now? Is it better to purchase Coda 2 from the Apple App Store or direct from Panic?

They aren’t known for deals. I bought directly because at the time there were all sorts of issues with Apple’s sandboxing policy and the MAS version which has iCloud syncing, the direct version doesn’t. http://panic.com/coda/support.html

I’d also highly recommend looking into Sublime Text. The application can do a lot and is also highly customizable, but it’s not altogether obvious from the outset. Read through some guides like the ones below and you should be all set:

Joe, why did you have to go and do that? I was just getting ready to drop $75 on Coda 2.
