pass-through graphics/sideways text

do pass-through graphics alway have to be ‘on top’ (i.e. the uppermost layer) to be visible? - is there any way to draw a border around a pass-through graphic item , and have the border on top so it’s visible but still see the item below? - OR - is there any way to do sideways text (i.e. running bottom-to-top instead of left-to-right) within Freeway? - I’m importing a text graphic from Photoshop to make this happen instead of generating it within Freeway, cuz I can’t figure out any way to do it w/in FW - (AND: how do you do carriage returns in this FreewayTalk message board? I see them in other posts, but can’t make them happen when I type  - THANKS! - Rolf in MA

No, as long as the image is a layer, it can be at any z-index
(stacking order) that you like. The only exception to this is Freeway
Express, which doesn’t draw layered DIVs.

    item below? -

Yes, you can add a border to a pass-through image, but you will be
adding an HTML border to the DIV that contains the image, rather than
what Freeway usually does – modify the image to include the border.

OR - is there any way to do sideways text (i.e. running bottom-to-
top instead of left-to-right) within Freeway? - I’m importing a text

Simply select a graphics box, and choose Item / Transform. You can
rotate the content of the box (if it’s a photo) or the box itself, or
both independently, to any point of the compass.

(AND: how do you do carriage returns in this FreewayTalk message
board? I see them in other posts, but can’t make them happen when I

Think of this “board” as Mail.app – in plain-text mode. To make a
paragraph in a mail message, you would type two returns. Same here.

To make the text italic, you surround it with asterisks. To make it
bold, surround it with two asterisks. To make a link, type a link. To
make a code example, type four tildes in a row on a line, followed by
your code, followed by another four tildes alone on the next line.

To use Pastie or Gist to post elaborate code examples, just use either
of those services to create you post, copy the URL you see in your
browser, and paste it alone on a line in your message. There’s quite a
few other tricks here, but those are the biggies.

thanks Walter

sadly, I’m still in FW Express - no Transform, no layered DIVs - 2 more reasons to upgrade

It’s a very generous offer they make, too – 100% credit for your copy
of Express – so the incremental cost is something like $100US. You’ll
make it back in one hour of your next job.

I think they said $169 when I asked - and I only work for myself - these are my sites - so earning it back is going to take a while - the client is a real tight-wad
