Password protected URL

I know there is already an old question on this, but they made it sound like
the freeway action dident work well. It sounded like it took you to a page
but that you could copy the url and then not have to enter a password. Is
this true? If so what can I do so that dosent happen? Does someone have a
current example they can post?

An easy and one of the most secure ways to achieve this is by creating a Password Protected Directory (folder) on your server into which you publish the FW pages you want to protect.

All reasonable hosting companies offer this option in their CPanel

http://www.deltadzine.net/cpanel.html shows what it looks like

You simply choose a folder to protect and assign a user/password combination(s) to it.

To gain access to any page within that folder your visitor will have to enter a valid user/pass

Yes. The Action is “security through obscurity”. You end up naming a
page asdfgasdfsadfasdf.html or something like that, and it’s nearly
impossible for someone to guess that URL, but that’s the only thing
keeping them out. Dave’s suggestion of Apache Realms security is the
right way to do this. It gives you true security, not just hard to find.

I dont know if your familier with iPage. I’m new to all of this and I
thought iPage was a good hosting site. I can not seem to find the Password
Directories that you showed. If it is not possible with iPage please let me
know and I will try to seek out better alternatives.

I seem to remember from the last time that I looked at your site and iPage that your particular hosting plan doesn’t support PHP
