Password Protected URL

Hi.

I am using the above action (incorrectly I think!) I am trying to create a single page on a client site that can only be accessed by certain people. Security is not an issue here so I am using the above action.

I am currently testing and I have created a page called “password.html”

I have then inserted the action on another page and set the link type to “page”

When “password” is entered into the box, nothing happens.

I am sure I’m doing something wrong but I don’t know what (I know I’m gonna kick myself!!)

Q: How should I set the form methods and actions or do I need to?

Please can anyone help?

Many thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,
If I recall correctly then you don’t need to touch the form setup as
the action handles the redirection using JavaScript. Can you possibly
publish your HTML pages online somewhere so we can have a look at them
and, hopefully, diagnose the issue?
Thanks,
Tim.

Thanks Tim, yep the page can be found here:

http://www.mpscreative.co.uk/client_folder/fngc/playersarea.html

(password is “password” the destination page is called “password.html”)

The idea is that users click on the “Locker Room” link at the top and get to the above page (under construction) then enter the password to be taken to the actual page.

Thanks

Mark

Sorry Tim forgot to mention that the “Locker room” link does not point to the correct page at the moment, I am just testing so “playersarea.html” needs to be entered directly (this will eventully become "lockerroom.html).

Sorry for the confusion!

Cheers

Hi Mark,
The code output by the action appears quite broken and returns an
error in the browser.
Until someone, possibly me, gets a chance to update the action can you
send me your current Freeway file and I’ll manually add the code
required to do the redirection.
The goToPage function should look like this;

function goToPage(form) {
	var pswd=form.pswdinput.value;
	loc=pswd + ".html"
	fetchit(loc);
}

Regards,
Tim.

Hi there,

I have a site that needs very much the same adaptation as Mark’s. Is there any chance you could let me know how to change the output code so that I can get it all working ok?

Cheers
Jon

I’ve used this with success. Although I have yet to be able to incorporate my site design into the password entrance page.

Here’s an updated version of the action;
http://bit.ly/2JDU4f

or if you don’t like short urls;
<http://www.freewayactions.com/test/password-protected-url/password-protected-url.zip

The JavaScript that the action created was breaking and should now
work as expected. I’ve also changed the form handling so that you
don’t have to click on the submit button to get redirected. The form
should now behave like real form and can be submitted with the keyboard.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Tom,
Download the action and drop it on the Freeway application icon to
install it.
From the Insert menu select Action and then Password Protected URL.
This will add the action to the page. When published the action
creates a simple form that takes the text the user enters and uses
this as the basis to redirect the user to the correct page.
For example if the password is greendogleg997 then the page they will
get redirected to is greendogleg997.html
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Tim.

Note that if the password your user enters is wrong, they’ll get a 404. That’s a pretty confusing result.
