Hi Ros,
Another site with a serious amount of work in it!
It was an interesting browse. I did think that it would help to have
a bit more of a grid structure going on in the layouts to help the
consistency between pages.
The navigation bars at the top confused me briefly; with the ‘Art’
item picked out like that, it felt like I was always in that section
even when I’d clicked one of the other top-bar links. That kind of
marking out of an item is normally done to help people know where
they are in a site, and help them understand what they’ve seen and
what’s left to see. For example, I struggled to find my way back to
the page with the photo of Buzz Aldrin.
It was a pleasant surprise to see the photos of those guys BTW. I
have a lot of time for them; they were my heroes when I was small.
Still are, in a way.
And also - keep it up! See what you can do to regularise the size and
placement of objects in your pages; you’ll find it helps things to
come together faster.
Many thanks for your great comments!
It’s terrific to get an objective opinion.
1/ I’ll make ART the same size & color, and reverse the order (all art links in the top row)
2/ but what do I do, so a viewer knows he’s been to a link?
Even my new orange menu button on the homepage doesn’t change color.
3/ Grid structure? More consistency in layout? It makes sense. Can you give me an example, please, to get my thinking in the right direction?
Many thanks, Keith, greatly appreciate your help!!

If you like Buzz or Gene Cernan for your screen or something, I’ll be happy to email them to you.
I’m new to this also.
Freeway has a pretty good help menu, if you realize what you actually need to look for.
I’ve just been work with links and you might want to look at help/dynamic efforts/dynamic buttons and text.

A glossary would be a helpful addition to the help system. Perhaps
both (1) a list of all keywords used in the program with an
explanation (and screenshots to illustrate), and (2) a 20 minute essay-
like introduction to read and learn that “this” is called “that.” All
this might already be available somewhere, but the problem (for me at
least) is knowing what it is called and, hence, where to look.
Exactly.
Don’t know if you have tried other programs or not, but in my humble opinion this one is probably the most flexible and still usable for the average Joe.
Still a bit of a learning curve.
Looks like a real nice start, but the way.
thanks for the tip. Will try the help menu — after my Easter bicycle ride. Everything in bloom here in California.
Appreciate any comments regarding http://www.MimiArt.com
Happy Easter,

Hi Ros, I was born when the pencil sharpener came into use, so I am not much younger than you. I loved the site. I noticed just a little problem, one that I’m having trouble with as well in the web site I’m building. I have a very large screen and tend to open fairly large rectangular windows. When I go to your site, everything moves to the left, leaving a large expanse of black to the right - almost half of my big screen. Has anyone else seen this? What is the fix? Karen
btw, I’m really new at web site programming, having been away from computers for a while (old DOS troubleshooter/business programmer turned MAC lover. Does anyone remember RPG? Punch cards? ).
For your master page (or any individual page) select only the base
page (i.e. no items) and go to the the Inspector. You will see a
setting called “Align:”. Change this to “Center” and your pages will
be neatly aligned in the vertical centre of the screen.
As a note to age, apart from my miserable cave drawing attempts (also
misaligned!), in my early days as a TV planner in a London agency I
worked alongside a guy who used an abacus for calculations, while I
tried to keep up on a mechanical calculator. How times have changed! I
was old already (by many standards) by the time RPG and punched cards
came around. As for fonts, I was brought up on miniscule lumps and
thin shims of grey metal for characters and leading.

Thanks, everyone. That did it! And I’m glad to know there are a few of us “vintage” types out there! We do keep getting better, don’t we!
I appreciate the help - I’m sure’ll be asking many questions as I get the hang of this program. I am really happy I found it - iWeb, although fast, just can’t give me the level of control I want. And the other web design programs don’t give me the visual interface I want.
When I get the site up and running to my satisfaction, I’ll send the link for you all to critique. What a great idea that is. Cheers, Karen
Many thanks all for all your help. I’ve got each page centered now. What a difference it makes! Thanks
Am fiddling with the links now to make them dynamic, but it doesn’t worked yet.
Is it possible to have 7 links on one menu bar and have each word turn another color when clicked on? Or does each have to be a separate item?
Many thanks for your help
