PNG difference in FW5?

I’m been playing with FW5 beta. I need to overhaul a site of mine.
I got a PNG image/logo on the page that gives different results in FW4 and 5. Done in FW4, the drop shadow is uniform gray and in FW5 renders correctly.

Take a look:

The logo is at top right.

I created the logo in Intaglio, exported as PNG. The same image is used in both versions.

Is there a way to achieve this result in FW4?

In FP4 Make sure that, in the Inspector, the graphic tab (third long)
is set to Type: PNG with Colours: millions. Check that the image is
not set to combine (or is a layer) or you may not get the ‘millions’
optio. You should get the same shadow transparency as in FW5.

Yes that is how I’ve done it in FW4 but it didn’t work. I doublechecked that all settings were the same in FW4 and FW5, no help. Then I published the pages to a new, empty folder from FW4 and now it worked. Great.

I’m glad its OK now. It does point, however, to an inevitable truth
that in all applications and on all platforms, every now and then they
take it into to their own ‘minds’ to throw an inexplicable wobbly.
Most times, if, as you did, you try the same thing on a fresh page it
all comes OK.

IMHO it’s sometimes just the order you do things or what is already on
the page (which may have been edited a few times already) that has an
adverse effect. No logical reason, so don’t ask me why. (But I expect
the likes of the regulars - ‘thatkeith’, Walter LD, Weaver, et al -
could shed more light).

One thing to remember with software is that there will always be a
logical reason for whatever happens. That’s the nature of computing;
every single thing that happens, whether expected or not, is logical.
Although sometimes fathoming that logic can cause serious headaches.

One thing that can catch you out relates to publishing different test
sites into the same folder. That, combined with going back and forth
between documents, can get you into file-mixing situations that end
up with unexpected results. Not illogical ones, mind you, but
unexpected.

Never publish one document into the site folder for another one. It
isn’t a recipe for disaster, but it can cause you confusion.

Now, with regards to your cross-fading images and their white
corners, those are JPEG graphics and the white is a regular part of
those files. They are all held in divs, which means they’re layers in
Freeway. Which means transparent areas need to be considered with a
little more care than they do with unlayered items; you can’t just
assume you’ll get precisely what you see in the transparent areas.
This is predictable and can be managed, but you need to know how to
work with it.

I know that really. And I got just the reaction I hoped for from my
slightly tongue in cheek observation. It saved me typing a long
explanation - possibly with less clarity than your words!

And, quite seriously, your comments are always, I am sure, appreciated
by many.
