Well, a swf file can call another swf file – it’s a very common technique. Have a look through the Flash manual for how to load a movie into another movie. Basically you would have a very short movie load a longer one in response to a click.
I don’t create my movies in Flash, they are all done in Final Cut or Motion and exported to QT and converted to .swf with Vertical Moon.
I did some searching on the web, but didn’t really find anything to help my situation. I also looked through the Adobe website but that didn’t help either.
Assuming I can get the .swf files properly configured, what would I need to do in FW?
Well, all you would need to do is put the “poster” Flash movie on the
page as a normal swf, then use Upload Stuff or Upload Extra Resources
(Actions) to get the other movies up to the server. The poster movie
would be basically a two frame movie with a button set on the second
frame to request the actual movie file. When the page loads, only the
tiny two-frame movie would load into the browser’s memory. When you
click the button, the second (much larger) movie would be requested
from within the Flash environment, and would load into the first
movie. Optionally you could add a “loading…” script to that movie
to indicate that something good is happening. All of this will
require that you use the actual Flash application, or find a generic
loader that is designed to be configured externally.

I have been looking at the Vertical Moon site today and they appear to have the ability to add ‘preloaders’ to their movies. I haven’t gotten it figured out yet, but your suggestion seems to be leading me down the right path.
