Preview expires?

I bought v5pro and it’s telling me the preview version expires in less than 5 days.

What’s up?!

Another one will become available up until the full release. Don’t worry

Yup! The current Beta version is the 2nd one released and a third will be available in the next day or so I’ve been told.

According to my math, next week is in more than 5 days. Now I’m getting nervous.

Next week? Is that what Softpress have said?

Hi Duotone,

We have answered this quite a few times on the list now. Please don’t
worry, there will always be a usable version available during the beta
period. As Nathan said we are planning to release in the next few days.

I understand you’ll have another release out, but to run it till the 11th hour? Seems as a paying client I shouldn’t have to think about this…

What you have paid for is the final release which will be available on March 27th. In pre-ordering it now, you got a discount. That’s all.

It’s nice if Softpress has decided to keep releasing free beta versions until March 27th, but they’re not obliged to do so. The beta releases are free to all, whether you have paid for the final release or not. They are really beta releases: do heed the warnings on http://www.softpress.com/freeway5beta.php

Absolutely. Well clarified.

It’s nice if Softpress has decided to keep releasing free beta
versions until March 27th, but they’re not obliged to do so.

However, the word from Softpress is that this will happen. To quote
from a post made by Joe Billings of Softpress last week:

"Please don't worry, there will always be a usable version
available during the beta period. As Nathan said we are
planning to release in the next few days."

I’m still assuming that a new beta will appear before the current one
expires. (I just hope it is more than a couple of hours before!

Ok, but if I miss a deadline… NO SOUP FOR YOU! One year!

Why risk an important job on BETA software.

For us FW5 in only a lunchtime play session until release.

I realize it’s beta, but this is the first BETA app that has an expiration tied to it… Beta does not necessarily mean that it will expire, beta means that it’s under construction.

I only decided to use freeway beta because I trust softpress. I don’t make it a habit to use beta with critical things.

I’ve seen many a beta with an expiration date. But there’s no reason to stop trusting Softpress now.

I didn’t mean to suggest others don’t. I just worded my statement poorly.

I trust softpress.

Actually, this is very normal. This makes sure that people don’t
keep using the (possibly feature-incomplete, definitely not bug-free)
prerelease version for months or even years after the final version
is produced. Don’t laugh! It happens. After all, the beta is free
whereas the final finished product won’t be.

perhaps it would be more reasonable to let only registered users ( so who did pay for their copy or cd ) download this beta version. i think anybody can download now??
and i agree, that when you have an experimental version ( what beta still is!! ) you should not complain. Its just, that when it is abouth a software that you can’t go back from, once you make a site with, its not very handy when a update should be to late

i am still worrying iff i should get the 5 version, but i have to anyway, because 1 or 2 of my sites are now made with it. and even with a backup, you can not go back easy…

Yes, anybody can download and use the beta. And what a great way to
let new people get a feel for the app! It is all about marketing, it
is all good…

And it makes just as much sense to ensure that you and I don’t keep
using an out-of-date beta.
