[Pro] A couple of animations

Hi chaps - I seem to be going round in circles here.

This is a page for a client:

http://www.rogerburton.co.uk/clients/index.html

There are (when viewed locally) a gif of some sparkles, a fairy on a transparent background that animates a little (quicktime) and a line of text … it seems OK in safari but the transparency of the fairy doesn’t work in Internet explorer, and an flv, of course won’t work on iphone … any thoughts please … and have good weekends … Roger

I tried a gif version of the fairy and that looks rubbish as well - in both Safari and IE …

Sorry if anyone’s following this boring thread but I’m getting there … an oddity though … the ‘sparkles’ (which is a gif animation) doesn’t restart after a “refresh” any help much appreciated … Roger

Hi Roger

Can you just run through how you have put the various elements on this page together - particularly the sparkle bit - I am looking at janswf version

Thanks Dave, I’ve drawn a box for the text and dragged the two animations from ‘finder’ … it seems to be working OK now (more by luck than judgement) except, as mentioned above, the ‘sparkle’ element not ‘refreshing’ … Roger

It seems that this non refresh behaviour is not uncommon with animated gifs and I haven’t found a definitive answer. It appears to be a cacheing issue.

Is it an option to make the sparkle loop http://www.deltadesign.co/odds/sparkle.html

I also would advise that you didn’t use Flash for the other part if you want that to be seen on an iOS device.

Maybe you could combine the 2 into 1 gif - I know you thought the gif version of the fairy looked ‘rubbish’ - can we see it?

Here’s the gif version:

http://www.rogerburton.co.uk/jangif/

and yes Dave, I think the loop solves the problem it was just with my ‘Walt Disney’ head on I figured the fairy would make the words appear and then the spell would be over but, of course, if you blink you miss it anyway … more magic is what I’ll give them … Roger … and on the iOS version would be OK if I could solve the quicktime transparency problem … Roger

…with my ‘Walt Disney’ head on…

So that’s where it got to!
